An error on my part in the above - I've left Caltex Lytton (Brisbane) off the list. That refinery is still operating normally.

Sorry about that. :2twocents
A point to make is that refineries are usually specialised and can not produce just any end product from any feed
So we could get unleaded but no diesel etc..
In any case not enough to be self sufficient

I also wonder if any of this toilet paper is leaving Australia?

Is it like baby formula and being exported?

Or are people really buying with the intent that it's only for their own personal use?
I have heard the rumour about the shortage in China, due to masks, but I find it hard to believe it would make sense to send from here with postage costs and size of the object.

Thanks for the compiled information. Well drilled down; and definitely interesting seeing the various elements in the hydrocarbon mix.
Producing LPG in WA isn't much help if you're in Sydney and there's no means of getting it there
AGL is building a LNG import terminal at Port Kembla, I think.

Maybe, as its an important topic, a new thread should be started. Another element of this is the fractionation of feedstock, and also the production of plastics

Totally agreed from a rational perspective but if someone’s stuffing entire shipping containers full of it and they can sell it for a high enough price then it could be happening?

If you consider our exchange rate, I could understand people paying $10 for a roll.... you wouldn't think that is Aussies are buying them at that price? Maybe they are, and then on selling back on fleabay for $20...!

Reminds me of the Saudis? desperately wanting Minelab (Codan CDN:ASX) metal detector coils around 10 years ago.
Managed to get 3 around 350 apiece. Onsold for 1k each....nuts!
Apparently someone found nuggets in the desert and started a metal detecting gold rush! There's plenty of YouTube's on them. Funny stuff!

People were stealing it from pubs
I noticed this at a public toilet I frequently walk past too.

Went in just to check and yep, all toilet paper has gone. The empty rolls are still there, they can't be removed, so it seems that someone has taken all the paper off.

Getting ridiculous yes. I mean if it was food then I could understand that but this obsession with toilet paper is truly ridiculous.

I'm told it has hit London and parts of the US now too.

Just did some shopping, noticed 2 completely different guys walk in the shop separate occasions, direct march to the bog roll aisle.
Direct march out of the shop again...empty handed. Probably off to try their exploitative behaviour elsewhere.
Does a bear crap in the woods?
What do bears use for toilet paper?
Where do brown rabbits come from?

Can see a run on white rabbits next...

Well, I would've thunk the TP situation would be resolved by now.
Supermarkets shelves still vacant in my area.
Is this the situation everywhere still?

If it is, my thoughts have led me to considering raw materials used in TP manufacturing.
What is used to make TP ?
Am guessing radiata pine pulp?
Don't have time to start researching it yet.
So this leads me to, what companies supply material to the TP makers?
Maybe it's a case of the materials are imported?
So many questions...

Toilet paper still in short supply in up our way. Went shopping for the first time since arriving home and after 14 days stuck inside. Woolies has toilet paper and a 1 pack limit. Just about every trolley had at least 1 pack.
Probably a surprise to most but toilet paper is made predominately from hardwood (generally about 70 - 75%) with other cheaper woods mixed in. Mainly because the hardwood generally has shorter and more suitable fibres.

This week the local Coles had TP just sitting on the shelves, no mad rushes or people lining up. Lots of people had it in their trollies/baskets but still half the shelf was full. Happened 2 days in a row which makes me think maybe my area has now stocked up enough for 6 months o_O

Edit: Townsville is where I'm based.

My local shelves are still bare.

I hope many of the parasites selling rolls at inflated prices online have been shut down, I've been trying to do my bit by using the reporting function.

We all need to do this !

Where are you? Our local IGA and ALDI are now fully stocked and Coles is pretty much fully stocked also. I am in Ascot Vale Melbourne.

I've been shopping at Coles, Orange NSW. No toilet paper for 3 weeks by the time I get there. Long life milk rationed to 2 per customer. No paper towels either.
