The Albanese government seems to be staedily falling out of favour with the most important group, the electors.
Something unthinkable has occurred where Albanese is only 1 point ahead of Dutton in the preferred PM stakes, which is remarkable givem that in December 2022, Albanese led Dutton 55% to 29%.
That is some turnaround.
And the punters reckon the coalition is better at managing a few issues compared to the Labour incumbents.
It comes down to how the same punters rate these issues in level of importance.

Pretty high rates of 'unsure' which could go either way imo.

People don't get engaged until election campaigns start, and then it will be up to the best marketers/spin doctors.
 
Looking like Dutton could get-up next election going by the polling interesting given Dutton spent $30mil locking up a mother and father of two young girls one Australian born then letting them go after the politics went south.

Oh well Australia will get what it deserves.

No matter what you think of Dutton he is a good operator and politically astute. He as been talking about Uranium as a solution to our energy problems for some years and now Wall St. is catching up. Also if anyone had said 5 years ago that Dutton would be even money to be our next PM they would have been committed to an insane asylum.

Dutton is nothing more than an LNP version of Bill Shorten. A thug. Pledges full support for Turnbull then knifes him later in the same week.

There is no indication of the Coalition picking up the required 21 seats to win the next election outright unless the polls show something like LNP 53% to ALP 47% 2PP.

Election swings are never uniform so that favours the Govt.

I think it's going to be a hung parliament.

Labor have simply failed to appeal to the people. That's the only reason there's even the slightest chance of Dutton becoming PM at the next election - Labor keeps fumbling.

I voted Labor at the last federal election for the record.

From the monthly Ipsos Issues Monitor poll, it's pretty clear what voters are concerned about. From the August 2024 surve:

Cost of living = 66%
Housing = 43%
Economy = 31%
Healthcare = 30%
Crime = 19%
Immigration = 13%
Poverty 13%
Petrol prices = 12%
Environment = 11%

All other issues came in at 10% or below.

From there it's pretty straightforward what to focus on if the aim is to be re-elected and quite simply Albanese and his government simply hasn't done so.

What it looks like, is the government's been captured by an assortment of squeaky wheel lobbyists who've kept the focus on everything other than the major issues. Furthering their own causes at the expense of the government's future re-election.

Right or wrong, that's how it looks. A government that keeps bringing up all manner of obscure things rather than sorting out the big ones. Failing to grasp that even for most of those within the various minorities, their biggest problems are still inflation, housing or other economic matters.

We pay top dollar to get the Organ grinder and unfortunately just finish up with the Organ Grinder's Monkey.
Pretty much the same on the other side of the fence with Dudston, also.

That's the essential problem.

The Greens want things done their way or no way and Labor can't do anything without them so they are strangled.

The Greens are the real problem, not Labor in my opinion.
 
So we are supposed to believe that a Party that botched energy policy 22 times the last time they were in are capable of dealing with such a complex project like nuclear power stations that will only provide 4% of our energy needs?

I don't think so.

Just listening to the general chat onboard ship, the middle class, who take these cost effective cruises, feel they have been deserted

The underlying complaint, housing, as we said it would be, they are all concerned about the lack of opportunity their grandkids are facing.
Interestingly the Yanks onboard, have exactly the same concerns, no mention of war just the economic challenges facing future generations.

I doubt that the Labor Albanese government will lose the next election.

Not since 1931 has any [federal] government failed to win a second term. So predictable has the victory become that political commentators routinely refer to the “reluctance” of voters to despatch a government after just one term.​

The vibe and discussion that I receive from my customers and suppliers is that they are disappointed that their labor Party is no longer the same as the one they grew up with, but they still believe that the core is there, and that Albanese is learning on the job and getting back to basics after getting slapped down by poor polls caused by the Referendum, immigration, and the recent feral protests.

The next election will most likely see a copy of the 2010 election where the Labor and Greens formed government.

I thought he might have been better prepared today, but:

“I might note as well, that the Today Show, Sunrise, was full of media, these were not commercial flights. They were all recording and doing interviews on the way, Kerri-Anne Kennerley was there in Dubai along with other people from The Project.

“Every other flight I paid for, every other flight, these were two non-commercial flights that were declared in which transport ministers and shadow ministers travelled as well. It’s as simple as that, it’s very transparent out there, I’ve declared everything in accordance with all of the rules.”

That is going to need re-evaluation of globalisation, the outsourcing economy, secure employment, reduced immigration, better education, higher tariffs and much more besides.

The Coalition had 9 years to do something and did nothing, and they and the Greens are now blocking 'made in Australia' legislation which is at least a recognition that things have to change.

All very well being disgruntled but people have to back that up by choosing a government that will produce change without stuffing things up completely.

Interesting that Trump had his chance too and didn't do a lot that was meaningful.
