Jordan Thompson is playing outside his skin in Brisbane.
He is a great kid and putting it up to Raffa.

the United Cup has been exciting ... twists and turns with multiple matches where loss has come after having match points up the sleeve.

Yes we thoroughly enjoyed it and the Brisbane international, both had great tennis and the competitors were tough but respectful of each other, an absolute pleasure to watch.

So true.
The new generation is on the rise and starting to fill the void Federer, Nadal and Djokovik are leaving.
I think Kokkinakis and Kyrgios are going to find it more and more difficult to qualify. :2twocents

Alcaraz the magnificent .... Sonego was pretty good. Tennis at its best.
Alcaraz 20 years old, Sonego 27, the only way is up for Alcaraz.

What I have liked about the AO so far, is how well the Australian players have been doing, Thompson, Purcell and Popyrin were outstanding.

They all had opportunities to close out matches against top line players, the only thing they lacked IMO was that 1% extra required to hit the finishing shot, that takes a lot of experience in those situations against those top players.
They might have been knocked out of the comp, but they certainly showed they are right up there in ability, at that level most of the difference in players is the strength above the shoulders as it is in most sports.

I think the blow up in 2019 between Kyrgios and Hewitt, has helped a lot of the Australian Davis cup players settle down and given them the self belief to achieve their potential.
Rather than being bit part members of the Kyrgios show, which has ended up being, just a huge waste of a massive talent IMO.
All just my opinion.

Hewitt was uncomfortable on the sidelines of Kokkinakis last night,

The 20 game tie break between Anna Blinkova ranked about 60, against third seed Elena Rybakina, was great to watch.

Yes, I watched the game, I would be surprised if Djokovic doesn't have a serious hip injury, he made no effort to chase down anything to the right of himself which is most unusual.

But having said that, Sinner played really well and has a great coach (yeh), well deserved win.

Hopefully Djokovic doesn't go the same way as Nadal, but whoever said "time does not weary them", was full of it. ;)

Zverev and Sinner should be a great final, young, keen, hungry, recipe for a great final, if they are the finalists.

Time will tell, he has to beat Medvedev yet. :xyxthumbs

I don't want a Russian to win the men's and a Chinese lass to win the women's.
Petulant attitude I know.

Sport is sport, the sportsperson puts a huge amount of their life into producing the best from themselves, that shouldn't be cast aside on some ideological, emotional or political whim IMO.

Making a sportsperson a political or ideological pawn is abhorrent IMO.

Imagine if you as an electrical engineer just doing your job, was banned from a golf club or public transport or anything else because the company you worked for, was part owned by a Chinese company.

I don't think it would be fair and to be honest, your company probably is. :roflmao:

This is the problem today, no open mindedness, everything is driven by emotion and media driven mania, the application of logical thinking has gone out the window IMO.

Sport is somewhere between politics and war.
Yeah, sport is a preparation and proxy for war. The one-on-one sports, like tennis, are reminiscent of the David and Goliath idea of war chiefs sending their best "champion" to decide which chief will control the resources of their two lands (without unnecessarily depleting the able-bodied men who'll they'll need to till the fields and fight in future battles).

Tough final. Worthy adversaries.
2:1 at the moment.
Great comeback by Sinner, some really nice shots in the 5th set, great tennis.

Well done Sinner, kept his cool to close out the match, getting Aussie coach Darren Cahill on the team certainly has paid dividends.
Cahill has coached some top players.
