Further to that, Julia, they introduced gum trees (eucalypts) from Australia, to the west coast of the U.S, due to their evergreen foliage.
After a few wildfires( we call them bushfires) they have declared them a hazard and are removing them.
The oil in the gum leaves, certainly perpetuates the fire once flash point temps have been reached.
