Thanks Skinner36, apps looks great. The proxy authentication still doesn’t work for me. Might need a field for username & password.

Look in the options screen. There is a location for the proxy name and port number. Be advised that this has not been thoroughly tested though.

Cheers

John

Just wondering whether anyone has an opinion on havin the "grey state" between low & high triggers, as lowtrigger=backgroundRed & Hightrigger=BackgroundGreen, but inbetween has no colour indication.

So say low volume (or price) =5,000,000 & high volume =7,000,000 , anything over 5mil & below 7mil is not coloured, hence may go under radar.

My thought was if lowvolume=5,000,000 then highvolume should automatically be 5,000,001 with the option to change it..???, this way their would automatically be one colour or the other.

Hope that makes sense..???

Thanks

hey thanks skinner!

excellent program AND it's free. very much appreciated.

i'm using the **** out of it :D

Hi John,
Great program u have created!!!

I set up a sound for the triggers, but find it triggers every time prices are fetched, even if no triggers are set.:cautious:

Firstly, props to skinner36 for making this great little app available to the public :)

...just wanted to know if anyone was having any issues with it this morning (or whether it's just me). I seem to get a "Input string was not in a correct format." error whenever it goes to poll prices.

Have tried deleting my xml settings file and re-adding codes, but I still get the same error.

Hi,

Etrade have made some changes to their web site which causes Stockwatch to crash in a way that wasn't anticipated. Hence the nasty way in which it shuts down.

I have sent an email to Etrade asking for their permission to to modify the program so that it will take into account their changes. When I receive a response I will let you know and if it is a positive one, will release a new version of Stockwatch.

Hi Skinner.

Silly question but why do we need to get their permission to modify your application..???? and can we use another data source or have multiple choices with to much trouble..???

Or is this the EnD od Stockwatch. -sigh-

It's been very useful Skinner, all thanks to you, and hope there is some way to keep it running...???

Thanks, Appreciated

Hi SevenFX,

Hope this answers your questions

Silly question but why do we need to get their permission to modify your application..????

Stockwatch uses a freely available Etrade web page to access data that does not require a membership log-in. E.g. The following link will show you data for the company API.

https://invest.etrade.com.au/QuotesAndResearch/Shares/Quote.aspx?symbol=API&tab=Quotes

As I don’t understand the intricacies of copyright I thought it best to ask for permission to access their data programmatically after the changes were made to their web site. Please note that permission was not asked for previously which may have been an oversight.

If anyone can tell me that accessing data programmatically from a freely available web page is not infringing on any copyright then I will modify Stockwatch to suit. I’m sure you can appreciate that I don’t want to be sent to the big house. :)

and can we use another data source or have multiple choices with to much trouble..???

Any data source could be programmed as long as I had access to it to write the code.

Or is this the EnD od Stockwatch. -sigh-
There are lots of free utilities that do what Stockwatch does, however they all seem to use delayed data. What makes this utility useful is that it uses live data. If I am able to access Etrade or program for other live data feeds then I see no reason why it should not continue.

I am more than happy to keep working on this for the folk at AussieStockForums so I welcome all thoughts, comments and suggestions.

Regrads,

John

Actually there are a few great things that Stockwatch has given us, Live data, Built the way ASF members suggested thanks 2U, flexiable and continued development since built so I for one would hope it doesn't go.

As far as copyright goes IMO, it's ASX raw data really and theres no magic no's that your pullin from their site that they could stake a claim to, so it's out there for the public to view and were viewing it I guess...lol.

Beside you've developed a tool, it's me thats [using] the software tool and like lots of filesharing tools it's the user thats responsible for what they do with it.

As you mentioned there are lots of tools (delayed) that pull data from lots of websites, so can't see yours as bieng any different, as your not hacking their code or hacking into their site to get it... but alas thats just my take on things.

Hi m8 newbie to site and I just found your app....looks a treat and just what I was looking for to be honest!
Simple and easy.
Only problem is I keep getting a error msg and no prices being updated or displayed-wants to shut down.
Is this the problem you mentioned above?

Anyways please keep working on it, much appreciated and hopefully I can get it working. :D

I used earlier versions of Stockwatch for some time and I think it's a great tool.

However, I'm having the same problem with the latest version 1.0.4.0, I keep getting an error message "Input string not in a correct format".

Unfortunately, I didn't save the earlier versions.

Any advice on how to fix? Many thanks.

John (Skinner).

Many use a live data feed now and pay for it.
I stream it into 2 softwares now.

Why cant I just stream it into your application? Solves a lot of problems if users dont want it (The live data) for nothing!

How would you do this?

Tech,

I am in the process of making Stockwatch use a plug-in system that will make use of various data feeds. As a test for this system, the first source I will use is Finance.Yahoo.

I will publish the plug-in structure as a document so that should anyone be interested to do so, they could develop their own plug-in. Alternatively; I will develop them as requested.

I don’t have access to a live data stream so I need to investigate how this would work. Any information or assistance in this area would be appreciated.
