I'd like to understand how other people out there are trading the SPI futures contract. Here's my questions:

1) What style are you trading (scalp/position)

2) If position trading if you hold overnight

3) How many points stop you allow

4) How much points profit target you aim for

5) If you take your gains if you think it isn't going to hit profit target

6) If you automate this with bracket orders or do it manually.

7) Do you generally hit the ask or wait at the bid

Just to show good faith here's my answers:

1) scalp
2) N/A
3) 1 but sometimes it slips to 2 or more
4) 3 to 4 points but sometimes I let it run if there's really momentum
5) Oh yes
6) Manual
7) Bid unless I think it's running away in which case I pay the ask

Ive just started trading the SPI recently :>

1) What style are you trading (scalp/position)

Intraday

2) If position trading if you hold overnight

Dont hold overnight being intraday - However will consider holding one contract at what appear to be major peaks and troughs for some nice trend riding

3) How many points stop you allow

Currently 8 point stop but am looking into other options

4) How much points profit target you aim for

Looking for 15+ points but will take any open profit when I see Double tops/bottoms put in on the 1min chart

5) If you take your gains if you think it isn't going to hit profit target

Yes

6) If you automate this with bracket orders or do it manually.

Manually as Im watching the screen constantly

7) Do you generally hit the ask or wait at the bid

I generally enter on breakouts (hit bid) or pull backs (hit bid/ask depending on momentum)

I look at SPI from time to time and trade even less. But sometimes opps pop up that are worthy of trading (eg dubai)

1) What style are you trading (scalp/position)

Both

2) If position trading if you hold overnight

Yes; Will sometimes use barrier warrnts for o/n trades if I expect major volatility.

3) How many points stop you allow

Depends, 5 for scalps; Lots for position

4) How much points profit target you aim for

2R for scalps, EoD or EoD+1 for positions

5) If you take your gains if you think it isn't going to hit profit target

Yes

6) If you automate this with bracket orders or do it manually.

Bracket for scalps, manual for possies

7) Do you generally hit the ask or wait at the bid

Always hit to enter.
