Speech pepperisms that bug you

But what was once outside the square is now inside the square. CDIs for eg

So if the square is now bigger you may have to step a little further to get out of it.

Wasn't 'paradigm' a 'new' buzzword about 15 years ago?

Ok, like, you know, let's workshop Phil's idea of project specificity, of using convention and basic intuitive thought, nonetheless within an orthodox method, like, at this point in time, we need more than ever a toolbox meeting to, like, achieve realistic outcomes, and you know, you people on the ground who deliver program outcomes, we need to think outside the square. Like, you know, for example, the concept, like , Gaia, Mother Earth, we need to be inclusive, and real, otherwise our stakeholders will feel disconnected and nay I say, like, disenfranchised..................

Maybe there is no square, maybe there is. But while innovative thought/lateral thinking/whatever sometime produces brilliant solutions, sometimes it doesn't.

Sometimes it ends in disaster by invoking the law of unintended consequences. CDIs for eg.

It might be destructive to be outside the square just for the sake of it. The best solutions may sometime be there, but not always. Sometimes there is a reason for the square... and there I go peppering my post with a pepperism.

<add> another eg: The Platinum Pursuits strategy mentioned on this forum - Written calls over CFDs.

Is it "thinking outside the square"?

Sure.

Is it the best solution for the dilemma of systematic CC writing not living up to the claims of spruikers et al?

Nope.

Getting OT

"At the end of the day" is one that is overused

Another one that has come to mind in the last few days that I really dislike is "Christian values". Excuse me? Just what are "christian values"? The people who toss the phrase around so loosely generally mean the virtues of goodness, kindness, compassion goodwill-towards-all-men, etc, etc.......... but aren't these the values of ordinary, good people everywhere, regardless of faith? The christian church does not have a monopoly on them. If people are not christians, does this mean they don't have these values?

Or are "christian values" such things as cruelty, greed, hypocrisy, barbarism, dishonesty........ all of which have been and still are practised by christians.

"In all honesty..."
"To be totally honest..."
"All crap aside..."

It always make me want to ask if the person using them is a pathological liar.

cheers
Surly

Overuse of 'no worries'.
Sounds like the guy has chronic worry and is trying to talk himself into believing there are 'no worries'. 'All good', 'OK', 'ah ha', 'yep' or <nothing> are much better.

"Daylight Savings" There is no "s"!!
Not only that! But there is really nothing to save! The daylight comes free from the Sun in abundant quantities. If you want to make better use of it, get up at sunrise and stay outside till sunset.
If anything, you save some Nightlight if you switch the telly and indoors illumination off a little earlier. Considering how much crap is broadcast, that kind of saving can be achieved regardless.

Robert? Is that you?

gg I think you are my boss, because you just quoted him almost verbatim, only things missing is he would have chucked in a 'paradigm shift' and an 'under performed'.

A great movie finishes,
the credits start to roll. Suddenly the screen is minimized while the network blathers on loudly about a game show tomorrow. Complete mood killer and pretty insulting.
