Sorry about that downtime

and here i was blaming my browser , i must have just changed browsers at the perfect time

had some distraction today , so i probably wouldn't have posted much anyway

glad to see the problem is solving

cheers

The only positive to come out of all this is that ASF is now on a newer server than it previously was which may improve page loading times and site speed generally. The old server was getting a bit long in the tooth..
if the new server keeps loading the ads with bikini clad lasses rather than Richard Wilkins' mugshots, I'm going to take it as an improvement.

glad you're back

Good afternoon all,

What a horrible day! :(

Firstly, let me apologise for that extended downtime.

Between 2am and 3am this morning the data centre that ASF is hosted at suffered a significant hardware failure that caused numerous servers to go offline, many of which suffered data corruption and as a result could not go back online.

Since that time the host has been transferring affected client file systems and databases to new servers. When those transfers are complete, the technical support team has been attempting to repair the data corruption on each server.

The ASF file system has just finished transferring to a new server and the databases have now been repaired. The only positive to come out of all this is that ASF is now on a newer server than it previously was which may improve page loading times and site speed generally. The old server was getting a bit long in the tooth.

These kind of incidents are web hosting black swan events and unfortunately cannot be predicted nor prevented.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you all for your patience. If you have any questions, please ask them in this thread.

Please resume posting.

My work efficiency rate increased. :)

It's a proper rocket now.
Used to nearly time out on occasions.
Gif load test... it's quick.
Good job Joe.
My question however is this;
Wots fo dinner now?

I'm glad to hear that others are finding that page loading times have improved.

Plain old snags on the menu for me tonight. Didn't have time to organise anything else. Could always be worse though... could have been 2 minute noodles.

you probably deserve a 7 course meal ...
... meat pie and a six pack
For someone who has no words (Просто нет слов)......you have a very quick oven, producing your baked mud tablets.

bux

PS In no way taking anything away from your well deserved celebratory meal Joe.........thanks for your persistance.

Definitely much faster, I had noticed that uploading attachments had slowed to the point of nearly being unusable in the last few days. (reporting season so its an active period for me.) No inconvenience caused for me, I just went out to the boat and tackled a few jobs that needed doing there instead!

Knownhost issue ?

It was a UPS failure at the data centre housing their West Coast based servers. Many of the servers crashed causing InnoDB corruption. All of the affected servers needed to be migrated to new hardware and then the corrupted databases needed to be repaired, which is why everyone was getting an error message about “An unexpected database error occurred. Please try again later.”
