S32 - South32 Limited

No selloff today in S32 share price. If I had a CFD account this would be an interesting short. Just as iron ore is currently and lithium last year.
and yet S32 moves higher over the last 3 months. $4

The short after the manganese wharf damage did workout OK for a few days. It was short lived though as tin and especially aluminum prices rallied strongly. The better trade dealing with the cessation of S32's manganese shipments was to buy JMS.

This sort of rubbish has put S32 out of consideration for me, limp woke fkrs. They're just conforming with the fashion in my view. Selling it to our buddies the Indonesians adds salt. I hazard a guess that our FIRB is terribly climate conscious too and I'm sure they are correctly diverse.
The other issue has been how badly S32 got the Hermosa project wrong with the US$1.3Bn impairment. That thingo used to look so mouth watering. Disillusioned with the d'heads now. If only everyone could be as competent as me.

Oh yes, that's nice, four out of seven are women. Hope there's a gay and a trans and a non Caucasian amongst them.

FIRB Board membership

As at 26 March 2024, the Board comprised the following members.
  • Mr Bruce Miller AO (Chair)
  • Mr Steven Skala AO
  • Ms Carolyn Kay
  • Dr Sarah Pearson
  • Ms Linda Apelt
  • Ms Kellie Benda
  • Mr Chris Tinning
Edit: lol, all the recent appointments under Labor were women. Isn't that amazing - all the most most meritorious candidates turned out to be women.

"The end of 2023 saw a raft of new appointments to the Foreign Investment Review Board. Linda Apelt, Sarah Pearson and Kellie Benda were appointed in December 2023"

i hold S32 partly via the BHP demerger , very little chance i will consider adding above $2 ,

seems to have caught whatever BHP has ( management-wise )

PS i rescued my investment cash twice-over in March 2023

Not really sure why I'm holding this woofer.

The problem might be that I can't see any significant crocodiles in this report, but it's down 10%, which must mean I'm a dear with no eyes.

Maybe it's the impairment charges...

am not sure i agree on 'woofer' , but a disappointment , yes i think it is and since BHP is still wandering between false steps so we can't really blame BHP for off-loading all the substandard management to S32

the share price will need to go much lower before i CONSIDER if to add to the current holding ( which i reduced @$4.40 last year )

My average price is about $3.60 so I'm only in the toilet for a few coins, but might as well buy a resources ETF or big brother.

I think I originally bought this as a chart trade and they had some silver somewhere but I lost track and now it's just some numbers and a funny symbol that doesn't make a lot of sense.

Any idea why they own anything north of 32 degrees south?

Yes definitively disappointed

I just added this to my list of potential buys , looks like an over reaction . Historically these 25% + dumps in 2 months been buyable . I note GS put a $4.30 price target on this earlier this month .

Keeping an eye on revisions next week or so

some crazy trend IMHO

i note EVN bought a project in North America as well ( much to my dismay )

but i got a slab of S32 when BHP spat out the company , and considering i bought the sweet spot between MQG offloading the SYD exposure ( thank you MQG ) and the BHP demerger , my entry is rather low ( depending on how you value the demerger shares )

but i still thought S32 would have been doing better by now , stabilized grabbed some 2nd/3rd tier assets etc etc

i mistakenly over-estimated the enthusiasm of the management to prove themselves ( and get poached by Glencore or BHP )

All your entries are low Divs. You bought all your shares in the 1800s.

It's the female chairman:wheniwasaboy:
Who do you think is the hard headed realist - Asian private equity and a global bank or a meddling, herd following chair?
ALso, I shall never forget the Hermosa debacle.

$2.63 for the parcel of S32 i bought

but no i started very early 2011 ( and with 4 inherited stocks ) as green as grass and enough cash to buy a reasonable house in Brisbane at the time

remember my nick-name used to be lucky ( even at primary school ) and sometimes even my jaw drops at the luck

scars YES i have plenty but never a ( completely ) broken bone in almost 70 years ( just 9 or so greenstick fractures ) ( hence a different nick-name in other places )

I'm your alter ego divs, my nickname was Un, we should get together. 😂

So, it wasn't just the impairment charges but green tape issues. Hard to be a miner these days. I wonder when the pendulum swings back.

swing back .. in a word YES , try manufacturing much in Australia without aluminum ( considering we have mountains of bauxite )

not even drink cans .

but then Albo and the Greens would rather we all live in caves ( or under bridges ) so the swing back might take a while

say after we go to war with China and Russia ( and start sanctioning India )

July 8 decision , flagged on chart same day , Have to question why no announcement that or the following day . Chart resembles one that represents some with vested interests had this information . Its a dirty business . 9 consecutive red closes in the interim and down 20% + from july8 open
