The real Julia stood up yesterday.
In relation to Tony Abbott, the part of her reply that was good was where she reminded him of his judgement in relation to standing in front of signs such as "ditch the witch".

If she had principals that went beyond attaining and clinging to power, she could have been an outstanding political leader and PM.

I think the signs got behind him not him getting himself in front of them.

Really? I thought that was one of the worst bits. It was made clear at the time that Abbott didn't endorse those sort of comments nor did most people who were protesting. To drag that up again reeked of desperation to me.

That-man and the reference to her late father I thought were the worst bits. The whole speech reeked of desperation, but that wasn't the point.

One things for sure, Tony Abbott won't be standing in front of signs anything like that in future.

I agree. Almost all the examples she listed were of other people acting in a misogynist fashion and from my recollection of each circumstance, they were outside Abbott's control. I think the only direct reference to an act by Abbott was saying he used cat calls in parliament as she, Gillard, spoke. Pretty weak evidence of misogyny.

It was an opportunity she foolishly took. It will ultimately reinforce the public view that she will say (and do) anything to cling to power.
+1. I just don't know why he needed to give her any opportunity to sling back at him. He held the moral advantage and gave some of it away.

Agree.

Could some of the Labor supporters please come up with some examples of mysogynistic or sexist behaviour/language from Tony Abbott? This accusation that he is so inclined seems to have taken hold, thanks to the constant reinforcement of it from most government members (most pathetically by Tanya Plibersek on Lateline last night). The strategy from the government seems to be "if we say often enough that Tony is sexist the stupid electorate will believe it".

So let's see some actual examples?

Hard to imagine anything that could even come close to the vile and lewd remarks by Slipper, who imo should have resigned from Parliament, not just the role of Speaker.

I don't know how she's getting away with this misogynist bulldust, it's dominating everything she says, surely the public are sick of her.

Let's not forget it's male advisers and colleagues feeding a lot of this stuff to her. Also it's a government we're dealing with, not just the PM.

The Govt are a pack of ignorant pigs.
The speaker is a rude pig herself.

A waste of taxpayers money.......total waste.

Question time.

I wonder when the speaker welcomes one group or another into the Chamber if she actually feels any embarrassment, I know I do.

Once again the ALP is soley responsible for this govt's poor track record. And that big black hole was acknowledged as $50bn by the treasurer ...... so apparently misleading parliament two years ago about a false debt number is ok for this govt..

Question time is still about the LNP acting like it's the opposition:rolleyes:
