Potential WW3 threat

Britain will “physically cease to exist” if the new standoff in Lithuania triggers a nuclear Third World War, claimed a retired Russian general and military expert.

Lt-Gen Evgeny Buzhinsky told Russian state TV that the West is playing with fire in blockading Russian exclave Kaliningrad to prevent sanctioned goods reaching the territory via NATO state Lithuania.

He lashed out at British general Sir Patrick Sanders, who took command of the UK’s land forces this week with a rallying call to troops to prepare to fight and beat Russian forces in a Third World War.

“He doesn’t understand that as a result of the Third World War Britain will physically cease to exist,” said Buzhinsky.

Buzhinsky warned that alongside the war in Ukraine, the Kaliningrad situation is “deeply serious”, and claimed the West had ulterior motives.

He urged Vladimir Putin to respond immediately by sending nuclear weapons to Kaliningrad, the country’s most westerly territory, which is wedged between Lithuania and Poland, and is also the headquarters of the Kremlin’s Baltic Fleet.

“This is a long game to push us out from the Baltic Sea, an attempt to block and cut Kaliningrad off, and finally to take it away from us,” he claimed.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a chilling threat to the West, vowing to deploy the Sarmat hypersonic missile dubbed ‘Satan 2’ by the end of the year as nuclear tensions reach boiling point.

On Monday, Mr Putin said Russia is set to deploy its deadly ‘Prometheus’ hypersonic nuclear system.

The deadly Satan 2 nuclear missile can fly almost 18,000km, carry 15 warheads and has the potential to destroy an area the size of the UK in a single strike.

Mr Putin hailed the development of the new missile – successfully test-fired earlier this week – as “a big, significant event” for Russia’s defence industry.

“The missile can break through all modern antimissile defences,” the Russian leader said.

“There is nothing like this anywhere in the world, and won’t be for a long time.”

Spot on what you said @Sean K as really hope common sense prevails with some sort of peaceful resolution outcome.

I think the last time a major war was started was when the US and UK cut off oil to Japan during WW2 to punish them for their war in East Asia. Next thing was their attack on Pearl Harbour and into the SW Pacific for energy and resources.

Germany is running out of power and Russia is about to shut off Europe's gas.

Is the EU going to put up with this coming into winter?

Sometimes it takes a crisis to clear the air and some home truths to be driven home, I'm sure there is a pizzing competition going on.

Maybe the game of brinkmanship, is about getting the U.S to fess up about what they have, because as Trump pointed out the EU has zip.

You know the carrot top idiot who upset the EU, because he said they had dropped the ball and also told everyone that China was taking the pizz by stealing intellectual property and not honoring reciprical trade agreements.

We seem to have proved he was wrong, since he has gone.

No it was when Germany went nuts and started killing the shixt out of people it didn't like and put it's soldiers on speed (truth) and commenced a blitzkrieg on Europe in a quest for world domination. It was called world War Two

Before that Germany went nuts again and bought hell on earth it was called World War One.

There was a European War and an East Asian War occuring around this time, but it was when Japan attacked Hawaii that it turned into a true WW. My point was directed at energy security (and space and resources) and how critical it can be in starting major conflict.

The winter has been bad enough without a nuclear one as well.

It is going to be interesting to see if the World has changed, now that people are more informed than they were in the last major wars, Putin is trusting that the general public has the same goals and ambitions as he does.
Time will tell if his trust is well placed, the escalation from a private conflict being run by Putin and his paid army, is a lot different to conscription where everyone gets the opportunity to be shot.
He will now get feedback on whether he has public support or not, what is the old saying "one volunteer, is worth 20 pressed men", the U.S found that to be true in Vietnam and Afghanistan.
I wonder if Putin will find the same in Ukraine.

Yes, but not only wheels, flying the coup as well, this will really test Putins resolve, it is a different world than 30 years ago.
People don't do as they are told, just because they are told to, my guess is that the Russian general public wont have their heart in the cause.

BELGRADE, Serbia — Large numbers of Russians rushed to book one-way tickets out of the country while they still could Wednesday after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilization of military reservists for the war in Ukraine.

Flights filled up quickly and the prices of tickets for remaining connections sky-rocketed, apparently driven by fears that Russia's borders could soon close or of a broader call-up that might send many Russian men of fighting age to the war's front lines.

Tickets for the Moscow-Belgrade flights operated by Air Serbia, the only European carrier besides Turkish Airlines to maintain flights to Russia despite a European Union flight embargo, sold out for the next several days. The price for flights from Moscow to Istanbul or Dubai increased within minutes before jumping again, reaching as high as 9,200 euros ($9,119) for a one-way economy class fare.

Putin's decree stipulates that the amount of people called to active duty will be determined by the Defense Ministry. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said in a televised interview that 300,000 reservists with relevant combat and service experience initially would be mobilized.

Reports of panic spreading among Russians soon flooded social networks. Anti-war groups said the limited airplane tickets out of Russia reached enormous prices due to high demand and swiftly became unavailable.

Some postings alleged people already had been turned back from Russia's land border with Georgia and that the website of the state Russian railway company collapsed because too many people were checking for ways out of the country.

Social networks in Russian also surged with advice on how to avoid the mobilization or leave the country.
In an apparent attempt to calm the panic, the head of the defense committee of the lower house of Russia's parliament, Andrei Kartapolov, said authorities would not place additional restrictions on reservists leaving Russia, according to Russian media reports.

A group based in Serbia, Russians, Belarussians, Ukrainians and Serbs Together Against War, tweeted that there were no available flights to Belgrade from Russia until mid-October. Flights to Turkey, Georgia or Armenia also sold out, according to the Belgrade-based group.

"All the Russians who wanted to go to war already went," the group said. "No one else wants to go there!"

I might be a good time for civil unrest as a lot of the troops that usually control the population have been sent to the "Russian Front"

It's getting ugly in Russia, options are running out for the leadership IMO.
They can't win a major war without China and China isn't looking like they want to jump in.

Never saw this. Reviews are excellent.

Watching it. Heard the Frankie goes to Hollywood line. Gee, I am sad I didn't get a chance to see this when it came out. I would have been 19 at the time and loved Sci Fi stuff like this. The Triffids, Hitch-hikers, Dr Who but this is more near future.
