I'm interested in the opinions of those here as to where our current and past governments have been positioned in the political spectrum.

So of we take -10 as Communism (State ownership of resources and production) and +10 as Total deregulation and corporatisation of all government functions, where would the current Liberal, Labor and Green Parties stand, and also past governments ?

How about Whitlam, Hawke/Keating, Howard, Rudd, Gillard?

Personally I'd rate Whitlam -5, Hawke/Keating +2, Howard +4, Turnbull +3, Shorten +1, Abbott +8, Greens -3, Xenephon 0, Palmer +7, Rudd 0, Gillard -2.

Any thoughts ?

Like your ranges Tis.

Was initially puzzled by your opinion of Palmer, but I see your point. He's protectionist when it comes to him and his business, and bugger everyone else.

:)

Of course Paul Keating was of Manning Clark's opinion that there are two kinds of Australians: enlargers versus the punishers/straighteners.

Perhaps that would be a better spectrum analysis?

Clive is certainly an enlarger.

He's probably larger than he was before he went into Parliament due to dinners with Malcolm Turnbull.

Abbott was certainly a punisher. Don't know what we could say about Howard, he didn't seem to stand for much.

Turnbull is an enlarger, Rudd probably was, Gillard too.
