That would depend entirely on how much of their cost base is Labor related. They're making a motza but the AISC still looks a little high. I blame the unions.
nothing unusual for mines in North America ( particularly Alaska and Canada )Why are all my stocks announcing delays, weather events and breakdowns recently? Isvara, what's going on?

nothing unusual for mines in North America ( particularly Alaska and Canada )
after spending 3 years in a hotel watching pay-TV i gravitated to various 'reality programs ' which included various gold producers ( everything from metal detecting , vacuuming up alluvial deposits of fast running streams , ditto under frozen lakes/seas , and using dredges on normal lakes and slow running rivers , straight-out open cut mining ... noticing how seasonal factors limit each style ( and how smarter operations use meteorological interruptions to time servicing/upgrades and repairs , and sometimes keep older plant as emergency back-ups , since some locations are rather remote )
let's see if NST develops special strategies for Pogo over time
consequently for a fair while i strongly favoured gold miners operating in Australia and was under-impressed when NST bought that project .
learned some ( harsh ) lessons with gold miners in the Philippines , with difficult seasonal conditions and remote locationsPogo has the scale and grade with growth potential to warrant being in a gold major - just. 300Kpa is just OK. The reserve should increase considerably over time and maybe they can increase the mill size. I'd prefer if they owned DEG though.

from what i was watching on pay-TV reliability and durability count more than size ( large plant and parts can sometimes be a logistics nightmare )
i would not be surprised if Pogo continued to be a high cost producer even as new finds are being developed
but then 3 years down the track gold might be $US 3000 an ounce
snow , ice , melting snow , ( everything gets wet/muddy )I should know this myself, but is Pogo in the snow for half the year with access problems or something?

think fighting in the Ukraine ( because you are operating heavy machinery )
in some cases hard snow is a good thing ( not so useful for solar-panels or wind-turbines , so carbon taxes will be higher )
i don't know how they run Pogo but one would imagine workers are FIFO ( which could bring additional hiccups )
on the flip-side , grades should be higher ( when you find more assets )

Hi rcw...... Bit concerned that you are making decisions based on Commsuc's Suspect Charts...... Your above snapshot of NST shows the Commsuc Candle for 14/3/23 as being GREEN (usually a +ive signal)...... That Candle on most other Software Programs is shown as a RED Candle (usually a -ive signal), see my snapshot below....... Hope you were cautious about reentering NST...... Most Day Traders would have sold on that RED Candle.... The NST TA atm is looking a bit sus IMO......Good evening
Nice little playground at the moment. See how long it lasts. Holding.
Have a very nice evening. Good night Irene

'general corporate purposes' and some for the Kalgoorlie expansion
isn't the order in reverse ??
surely NST doesn't need the bulk of the loan for 'general corporate purposes' it has several working mines most of them producing gold when selling prices should be well over $A 2000 an oz
hmmmm
back to reviewing options of what stocks i reduce in the coming weeks ( NST might move onto my reduce list , probably not the 'exit ' list )
cheers
Northern Star intends to use the proceeds from the Notes for general corporate purposes, including capital expenditures. Such capital expenditures may include the KCGM Expansion Project if and when a final investment decision approving the project is made.
Commenting on the Notes issue, Northern Star Managing Director Stuart Tonkin said: “We are pleased with the investment grade ratings assigned to Northern Star, which reflect the strength and resilience of the business and our disciplined approach to capital management. Our continued performance and strong financial position have enabled Northern Star to successfully access the US bond market for the first time. “Proceeds from the Notes will provide Northern Star with further depth and flexibility of funding as we increase profitable production to 2Moz per year by FY2026 and consider other organic growth opportunities including the mill optimisation at KCGM.”
was very much a Bill Bearment fanI thought the reporters might have put it in that order, and maybe for a reason, but it's actually the order NST put it in as well.
I'm not convinced that this is very good communication to shareholders.
Maybe they need a war chest to buy something they have their eye on?
But, like you, I might be looking for an exit if this is just fluffing their corporate nest.
