New rules for buildings in bushfire prone areas

All new buildings in bushfire risk areas of South Australia will have to adhere to strict bushfire compliance rules.
Planning and building requirements have been introduced for new homes on the Eyre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island and Yorke Peninsula.

The requirements include having dedicated water supplies for firefighting and buffer zones will be required between homes and vegetation.
Homes in high risk areas will also have to gain approval from the Country Fire Service (CFS).
Project director Barry Greer says the plans are important to ensure public safety in the event of a bushfire.

"That's the safest place they're at, if you get out into the open because of radiant heat and trying to get through on a road where the flames are and so on of course, that's where the vast number of people that are killed in bushfires do get severely burnt or killed," he said.
Changes for the mid-north and Riverland are also being planned.
Meanwhile, the CFS says smoke is likely to continue covering areas in the Barossa Valley and Fleurieu Peninsula for the next few days due to the fires in the south-east.

Most of the smoke is coming from the fires at Ngarkat Conservation Park and Gum Lagoon Conservation Park.
The CFS says it expects the smoke to clear by tomorrow and has advised people with respiratory conditions to keep doors and windows closed.

This is good news.

I can also see urgent need to make more building in Australia hurricane and possibly earthquake proof too, not to mention mandatory solar hot water system and advanced water storage and water reticulation arrangements.
