I am so over the same old same old politics in this country. We need a new political party to challenge the mediocrity that faces us at the next election. Anyone got any ideas on names and platforms?
I vote for EVOLUTION - platforms include allow Voluntary Euthanasia, get rid of the State Governments, reform taxation, to name a few.

Anyone else got any ideas??

One thing that Pauline Hanson almost got right was the party name. "One Nation". the problem was that she called it "Pauline Hanson's One Nation". That was her first mistake. The Idea of "One Nation" appeals to me. We are a split nation with our aboriginals having different rights to the rest of us and new migrants being allowed to have dual citizenship.

Then we have the Confederate Party, the Australia Party, the Country Party. All good names but used up. A new party started recently is The Australian Protectionist Party. Their slogan is "We are not here to keep the bastards honest. We are here to kick the bastards out".

I used to believe that we needed more independants until I saw what happens when they hold the balance of power.

We certainly need another party. The alternative is to put the local mewmber last, regardless of party and get a new face with new enthuasium.

I appreciate and agree with your thought, communique, but it won't happen.
Most of the voting public are too apathetic to shift their votes, and would consider a vote for a new party which obviously isn't going to get enough votes to make a difference a waste of a vote.

Completely share your disenchantment, however.

Julia, Surely it is how the message is sold that has the potential to bind an audience to believe and want change. Look at how Obama grabbed back the spirit of the American people to want to ignore what had been and do something new. Despite what anyone’s thoughts on him are now.

It takes underlying disenchantment, an individual’s thought, a teams input, an inspirational leader, good marketing, and 500 members.

, and would consider a vote for a new party which obviously isn't going to get enough votes to make a difference a waste of a vote..

The beauty of (and probably its only redeeming feature) the preferential voting system is that you can show your support for the underdog yet still have a say in the choosing of the final winning candidate.

The difference between the two existing parties is not much at all these days. LABERALS was a term I heard the other day. Barely a Tallyho paper between either party IMO. Both have failed commensurately in their greedy endeavors to steer the hearts and minds (read trick them) into voting for their ideologies. A third party is highly unlikely as the existing proletariat is entrenched with their snouts firmly in the trough. And we the people keep voting for them in a cyclic fashion. Labor has the credit card mentality and racks up debt which in turn drives up interest rates. We get sick of this and vote in the Liberals. They toecut the economy and pay off the debt but do not replenish the larder to woo the voters into going again. Ohhhhhh the humanity of it all !

If a new party came out touting:

commitment to education and science
tax all churches/reinforce secularism
tax reform
strict border control/no more multiculti/no special treatment for minorities, including Aboriginies
abolish the states
reinforce our alliance with the USA
protect the environment

then they would get my vote every time

Liebor and the other mob are basically the same, the Greens will never do anything worthwhile. I usually vote for the X-Men.

And that’s how you end up with people like Stalin, Hitler, Mao, and
every other nutcase in history running the country.

Sorry to spoil the 'party' but we don’t need another one.

We just need lower taxes, smaller government, and much less bureaucracy.

The party that goes down that path gets my vote.

The 'Free Love' or 'Free Beer' party would win my vote on a Friday afternoon.

Julia, there is a Party formed already known as "The Climate Sceptic Party" and I believe they have three candiates in either the SA or Tassie elections on the 20/03/10.
I've been getting E-Mails from them for ages seeking donations for their campaign.
Keep an eye on the results.

Don’t confuse dictatorships with a democracy. How do you propose to get lower taxes, smaller govt and less bureaucracy if you don’t challenge them?

You need a working person, someone who's been there, and done that, someone who 90% of working Australians can relate to, Not some high flier with big $$$ behind them

I think you'd pull alot of votes via some sort of Justice System/Sentencing re-working, think of how many people have been affected by violence/criminals and how pissed off they are when the perpetrators get off with a light sentence.

Your second major issue could be Internet Filtering, Labor wants it, Liberals don't seem to care so think of the hundreds of thousands internet users you'd target with a strong NO towards the idea of The Filter.

Encouragement for a greener/more sustainable future but with no Wack-job Climate change BS and no increase to tax payers for it. Tax concessions for those companies/people who implement change.

Major infrastructure programs (Roads/Hospitals/Fast Train Network/Water Pipeline) Help create 1000's of jobs whilst getting something worth while for the $$$.

Oh btw, need someone to stand?

Frank,

Man am I with you here. Any libertarian/neo-liberal party not only gets my vote, but an activist as well.

Unfortunately people are addicted to the gu'mint middle-class welfare teet and don't want economic liberalism, even though the long term consequences of social democracy will be economic collapse.

This is why the main parties are brawling over the centre and failing to differentiate from each other, that's where the votes are. It's why the poison of Keynesiansim win votes.

The imminent good sense of " lower taxes, smaller government, and much less bureaucracy" is just not what the the average self-interested schmuck wants...

...unfortunately

Completely agree with both of you.
There is more chance of smaller government with the Libs than Labor.
However, they are not presenting themselves as a viable alternative at present.

Having been brought up with just the two main parties in NZ, on moving to Australia I found the Democrats interesting. They did (18 years ago) seem to have a reasonable role. Unfortunately they engineered their own annihilation.

I dunno Wayne, I think maybe a lot of people do want this, and vote for it. It is just that when one votes for the guys saying they will deliver this we end up with more taxes, more government and more bureaucracy, pretty much every time (and not just in Australia).

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing is that when they realise what goes along with the above, they baulk.

Because it also means no baby bonus, no FTB grant, no economic stimulus when the rest of the Keynesian world is flushing cash into the economy, radically slashed welfare etc etc etc.

There is actually such a party here in NZ ==>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACT_New_Zealand but they don't get many votes.

The Nationals have gone to the centre because they realise people are cognitively dissonant on these issues.

IMO anyway

Yep, you're right.

Will have a look at link to that NZ party - silly buggers

Don’t confuse dictatorships with a democracy.

Just because there’s a democracy doesn’t mean there won’t be dirtbags running the joint

Hugo Charvez Venezuela and Ahmadinejad of Iran springs to mind.

And I’m sure there are a ton of other democratic elected
nutcases throughout history.

And where do they come from…

They begin from “ underlying disenchantment, an individual’s thought, an inspirational leader”

Next thing you have is a bloated government controlling all aspects of life, and the more power you have the more chance it will corrupt.

Bingo…

There’s your 'evolution.'

I would fear you, Boognish.

Onto the question, I guess it depends what you are after. If you want to affect change as quickly with the greatest impact, single issue parties seem to be the go. One Nation and its immigration/ nationalism views the best example.

And in WA, we've had a very successful Libs for Forests member in Janet Woollard. And the Nationals turned themselves into a one issue party to save themselves from being annihilated, in the name of, "Bribes for wheat farmers who have done absolutely dick for resource royalties."

However, they don't last, obviously. But if you want to create a movement, it's a whole different story.

Certainly neither party really represent any particular grounded base anymore. The dynamics of left, right and all the rest are largely out the window. And I think there is room and the change there to force serious changes in terms of new and old major parties.
