Has anyone here had much experience with this? It looks a great bit of kit, I have been trialling NT but came across this on that Big Mike Trading Forum (am i even allowed to mention that forum here...) and it gets a much better write up. It doesn't seem to have anything that it can't do. Interesting that it adopts easylanguage (which at first glance appears a good compromise between inflexible GUI based strategies and full blown C# coding).

I have tried Multicharts and it does seem to be the ducks guts when it comes to real time systems trading (check out BM's video on the differences re backtesting and Optimisation between Ninja Trader and Multicharts) if you haven't already done so.I agree with your view re easylanguage .
I have had the most experience with Ninja Trader and then MT4. Might start a comparison thread one day....
Ninja Traders major achilles heal appears to be platform instability .:2twocents:)

Hi all

I've just dl'ed the trial of this as well. It looks really nifty and has the right balance between components and also a solid looking GUI. I also like the study and strategies functions. Just wanted to know if anyone else out there has experience with this? Also what sources does it allow to be added apart from Interactive Brokers, etc.

Cheers

Andrew

I downloaded the free version a while back. I remember deleting it because it had problems, though I can't remember what they were.

Re: Interesting info about Multicharts

Oh, those Russians. Pretty entertaining link and good to know. That guy is absolutely right and that whole incident is gonna hurt MC massively. That's not the way serious business is behaving. That Kirillov guy seems to be an instable lunatic. Who wants to do business with guys like that? Russians are unable to behave in civilized manner indeed. I witness it during holiday season in southern Europe every year. They seem to be drunk and stupid all day long. Now after reading his crazy reply it is also very suspicious to me that they use remote desktop to connect to user's computer. That's an absolute no go. I wouldn't trust them for thousands of years to come. The blogger is also right about Multicharts being a resource hog. I dumped it more than a year ago.

Really?? Compared to what? Have you ever used NinjaTrader:confused:

I actually love the product, and i test with 1 minute and tick data back 5 years on the DAX...NInja wouldn't even look at it on my older machine..

Totally disgusting behavior though.:frown:

Amibroker works great with intraday data also. And the speed is a real joy. It's not a resource hog like NT or MC.

Like i said i haven't tried it for years with intraday. Hooking up to Interactive Brokers was just way too much for it back then...all my code is in EL now..

Anyway, it will be interesting to see if MC survives this...

Re: Interesting info about Multicharts

Don't know how it was years ago but now I'm not having any problems with IB connections. Would rather suspect IB issues.

Re: Interesting info about Multicharts

Elitetrader.com is disgusting in the same way. That issue finally proves that they are getting paid for manipulating perspectives.
And Multicharts has been a joke for years. They are known for being arrogant crooks with exaggerated opinions of themselves but not being gifted at the same time.

This is a bit over the top isn't it?

Ok yes this may hurt their business and yes not the politically correct way to respond to a "review".
Also I deal with Russian /Ukrainian coders and yes they can be abrupt and direct but I admire that and view
that as a part of their culture.

I believe that they are quite entitled to respond in such a way. Aren't they just protective and passionate about their product?
Also have a look at the "review" .......just claims backed up by little in the way of facts i.e. which platform was he comparing to etc.

And here's my take on Trading Platforms:

Ninja Trader : Like the charts /ok for discretionary trading but useless for Automated strategies,
resource hungry and buggy.
Amibroker : Yes probably the ultimate for efficiency in backtesting/optimisation etc good for EOD .
Good support
But there is an issue with autotrading (can't find the link atm)an API issue.

Multicharts: The best all-round platform only surpassed by Amibroker regarding efficient use of resources

MT4: An excellent autotrading platform but lagging in the other areas

Excuse me but are you kidding me? They are absolutely not entitled to censor reviews. Then they would also need to censor any other reviews that claim anything without facts. Do you see any positive review there that is backed up by anything? You are just biased. They manipulate and behave like total dicks but not like businessmen who would listen to what users have to say. It's not OK in the slightest and it will certainly hurt them! Who wants to do business with lunatics. Why does he have to tell other platforms? Makes not much sense to me either. At least he was calling numbers. As by his words on his blog he soon wants to show videos. So let's wait and see.

@waza1960,

There are no problems with auto-trading interface of Amibroker.

But it depends on updates of IB API

http://www.amibroker.com/at/
1) Why IBController has BETA status?

The reason is simple - because it relies on IB API we have no control upon. You need to be aware of the fact that Interactive Brokers may and actually do change TWS and API quite often and any future changes in the API/TWS may produce incompatiblities without any warning. We try to adjust IBController as soon as such incompatibilities surface, but we can only do that "after the fact". Due to this there can be periods when IBController does not work properly with certain version(s) of TWS. That is the only reason why IBController is marked as BETA.

I second that. People who try to gag others have something to hide. Multicharts seems to be in fear of something. There is no other explanation to this. There was nothing wrong with that review.

There are no problems with auto-trading interface of Amibroker.

I count these as problems.......
from Amibrokers website:
PLEASE TEST CAREFULLY YOUR CODE USING FIRST DEMO TWS AND THEN PAPER TRADING ACCOUNT !

AUTOMATIC TRADING INTEFACE IS INTENDED TO MAKE TRADING EASIER AND FASTER BUT IT IS NOT INTENDED TO BE RUN WITHOUT SUPERVISION.
DON'T LEAVE AUTOMATIC TRADING UNATTENDED AS CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES MAY OCCUR LIKE INTERNET FAILURE, SOFTWARE CRASH, ETC THAT MAY LEAD TO SERIOUS FINANCIAL LOSS

And from Elite Traders :
Here were my issues:
- The AmiBroker auto trader interface works in fire-and-forget mode. You don't receive events when an order executes, is rejected/cancelled, connection is dropped, etc. You need to periodically poll the interface for status.

- You set your AmiBroker code to execute every n seconds. It runs from scratch each time it executes -- you need to rely on static variables to keep your state (entry price, target price, etc).

- When I set the code to execute more than once every 15 seconds, the results from polling occasionally returned false information (it would return "null" for order status when an order was in fact still working).

- When I wanted to trade more than one instrument (say both GBP and EUR futures), polling order info on both of them consecutively would always return erronous information on the second one polled

I haven't auto traded on Multicharts as yet but I can assure you that with Auto Trading with MT4 there are no issues such as these
Finally one broker available IB not good enough IMO
