Trump’s Border Czar Is a Terrible Person

Tom Homan, bad human.

ON NOVEMBER 11, THE DAY AFTER President-elect Donald Trump anointed him “border czar” in the next administration, Tom Homan appeared on Fox News, where he has worked as a contributor, to offer up a peculiar assurance: “Frankly, I don’t care what people think about me.”

That’s good, because I think—and I know I am not alone in this—that Tom Homan is one of the worst people on earth. Even among the ideologues, extremists, and sycophants being pulled together as Trump’s 2.0 team, he stands out for his sheer ugliness, meanness, and pious phoniness.

As an architect and proponent of the first Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy toward immigrants, Homan is eager to embrace his new opportunities to inflict pain and suffering on the huddled masses who, unlike him, are a vital part of what makes America great. He will be working with Stephen Miller, the administration’s newly named deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security adviser, to pursue the promised mass deportation of more than eleven million undocumented U.S. residents—parents, caregivers, taxpayers, and valued employees.

A former New York City police officer and Border Patrol officer, Homan was tapped by President Barack Obama to head up the deportation branch of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and by Trump 45 to serve as the agency’s acting director. He performed these roles with relish, carrying out record numbers of deportations under Obama—numbers higher, even, than those under Trump, thus cementing Obama’s reputation as the nation’s deporter-in-chief. (Obama was so appreciative he gave Homan the nation’s highest civil service recognition, a Presidential Rank Award.)

But there was one portal of pure cruelty that the Obama administration would not let Homan pursue: the mass separation of children from their families as a means of dissuading desperate people from seeking protection in the United States. In 2014, a year after Homan had been brought on board, he proposed using family separation as an immigration deterrent to Jeh Johnson, Obama’s secretary of Homeland Security, who told the Atlantic he rejected the idea as “heartless and impractical.”

Trump, of course, had no such reservations. Under his watch, more than 4,000 children were separated from their parents, drawing massive backlash and as well as a visit to a migrant children’s shelter in Texas by First Lady Melania Trump, sporting a jacket that proclaimed, “I really don’t care, do u?”

In 2019, during a congressional hearing, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) got Homan to admit that he was the person who recommended a zero tolerance approach that included family separation. But being the slithery liar he was and probably always will be, Homan insisted it was no big whoop.

The policy, he contended, was “the same as it is when every U.S. citizen parent gets arrested when they are with a child.” When AOC reminded him that the policy consisted of separating children from their parents, Homan continued: “If I get arrested for DUI and I have a young child in a car, I will be separated. When I was a police officer in New York and I arrested a father for domestic violence, I separated that father from the family.”

That effort to rationalize and minimize his monstrous inhumanity goes hand-in-hand with Homan’s self-delusion that he is driven by a high sense of moral purpose.

"family separation", isn't that what happens when a criminal goes to jail who has a family?
Any organ that gives AOC credibility has no credibility which 'The Bulwark' doesn't anyway being a partisan commie rag. AOC, who cried at the the 'immigrant cages' with her manicured fingernails clutching the fence for emotional support during Trump's first but strangely not when Obama and Biden were presidents. Never went to the border confinements again during Biden's term. Video of Homan wrecking AOC's pretences at congressional hearings.

Finicky you really are wasted in Oz. Why don't you write to Tom and offer your services to hunt down some of these millions of illegals ? You could find a niche there.

If you can't see the difference between someone going to jail for a proven serious offense and rounding up millions of people and sending them to god knows where ... you'd fit right into Homans good ol boys.

So Canada finally agrees with Trump, their border is like a colander, interesting.
Apparently Trump is pizzed about fentanyl.
I was in L.A about 3 weeks ago and it was weird to see people wandering around like they were on a zombie movie set, apparently that is the result of fentanyl, I was told.
I haven't seen anything like it in Australia, thankfully, it certainly is the weirdest thing I've seen.

Canadian authorities admitted that migrants can simply “hop over” the U.S.-Canadian border after Donald Trump threatened hefty tariffs on the country unless it secures its boundary.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with President-elect Trump at Mar-a-Lago after he threatened both Canada and Mexico with 25 percent tariffs on all imported goods unless they curb the amount of drugs and migrants from entering the U.S.

Now, members of the Canadian government’s police agency have conceded that while concrete blocks that dot some rural parts of the border prevent vehicles from crossing, it’s easy for migrants traveling by foot to step into the U.S.

“People can still hop over them,” Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Sergeant Daniel Dubois told Reuters.

Canadian police told the outlet that they have been installing cameras and sensors over vulnerable parts of the border.

Reducing crossings along the world’s largest border is a huge undertaking. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol have nearly 200,000 encounters with migrants at the northern border this fiscal year, data shows. August was the busiest month, when Border Patrol reported almost 19,000 migrant encounters.

“Even if we were everywhere, we couldn’t stop it,” Charles Poirier, an RCMP spokesperson in Quebec, told Reuters.
“Here’s the thing: they haven’t committed an offense until they’ve crossed into the United States. So our focus for the past few months, actually the past year and a half, has been on arresting and prosecuting the smugglers,” he added.

U.S. Border Patrol reported 7,000 drug seizures in the past fiscal year at the northern border — but only 82 of them involved fentanyl — data shows. That’s compared to 8,800 drug seizures from the southern border in the same period; nearly one-tenth of those seizures involved fentanyl.
In late November, Trump threatened to impose steep tariffs on the U.S.’s neighbors on his first day in office, unless the countries tighten the flow of migrants and drugs into the United States. His particular focus is fentanyl.

Apparently it's a drug, but I've been around and seen drug affected people since I was a kid and I've seen nothing like it.

This was a whole new level, some were standing like statues of dead people, others were walking along like something out of a horror movie set, dragging a leg and absolutely no facial recognition of anything going on around them.
Honestly, just like watching a zombie off a movie set.
Really weird, it wasn't as though they were bothering anyone, just wandering aimlessly down the footpath, or standing there frozen.
Weird $hit.

Unfortunately it's in Australia just not to the degree it is in the US. Ket is very popular, it's cheaper than a night out on the alcohol. They have priced alcohol so much that young people just buy drugs as it's cheaper.

I think they are more worried about nitazenes getting a hold.
The centre of L.A was just about empty, just the homeless and drug affected walking around, it was strange I expected it to be bustling and busy. It was nothing like Sydney during the day. Never went into the centre at night time.
