Mr. Trump (The Donald) To Win in 2024

US politics is insane no matter how you frame it and I am no fan of the Democrats but I am surprised Trump is still seen as a disrupter and will change things for the better.
Economics. The middle class. Manufacturing.

Any politician who isn't grasping those, why they matter and why the public wants it fixed, is on a hiding to oblivion.

Decades of globalisation have taken a toll much like a drug addition. There's no denying the short term high was truly euphoric but at this point any sane adult can see the damage being done. The downsides have become undeniable meanwhile the high's lost its impact.

Any political party not seeing the issue there becomes much like "that" friend aged 40+ who's still partying hard, still abusing their body and can't see what the problem is that others keep going on about. They might not see it but everyone else sure does.

Trump looks like the adult in the room. Someone who despite very obvious flaws has seen the light, got their **** together, and looks like he'll at least have a go at detoxing the rest of society.

To considerable extent it comes down to which side is most willing to abandon the rich and powerful. For the conservatives that's big business that wants to profit from offshoring production. For the other side that's celebrities, academics and on who like to call the shots in society. Whoever's most willing to abandon that group and focus on the mainstream middle is very electable - it's easier for conservatives since only a small subset of their wealthy supporters are affected and such people aren't particularly outspoken.

Oh well, this just shows what happens when the narrative changes.

Elon Musk has expressed gratitude as major brands, including IBM IBM, Walt Disney Co. DIS, Comcast CMCSA, and Warner Bros. Discovery WBD, resumed advertising on X, formerly Twitter.

The narrative has shifted pretty hard.
This is why minorities shouldn't throw in with the left. They leave you naked in the spotlight. The vast majority of the time it is white liberals and propagandists whipping up a frenzy. They will use minorities as a cover.
But when the narrative shifts. Morals get rubbery and they wash their hands.

I have no idea why they thought "Trans story time" was a good idea for kids. Or the drag shows they took their kids too.
They lost their minds.

But the right will do the exact same thing. In fact it's already happening. They start shifting into lunacy. Hopefully it calms down and sticks at centre rather than starts radicalising centre right into right and then far right. I'm against authoritarians from either side.

In my opinion they're going to have to swing the pendulum pretty hard just to get America back to the center, and yes there is a danger they go too far to the authoritarian right, not good.

I still believe there are moderating voices who are joining the administration, Tulsi, RFKjnr, Musk et al.

Of note, Trump and the above mentioned are all ex Democrats and they are going to be the main headline players in the administration. Additionally, apart from the big coastal cities and a small number of lunatic leftists, America is basically a right-wing country, certainly in comparison to the rest of the anglosphere and Continental Europe.

I think the main project in the United States should be the de-propagandising of media. To some extent the rows of the legacy media in losing great chunks of the audience is a sign that that may be starting to happen. That could possibly drag the Democrats back towards the center, but no sign of that yet apart from a couple of notable exceptions, Shapiro and Fetterman, maybe a couple of others. The rest at the moment are doubling down on the BS.

I think it needs to go that little bit too far right to remind people why you don't go to extremes. Also to shift the left back to middle ground. The delusional takes need to be broken first.

I do think the "Trump mania" in Australia is in for a shock when we get smashed because of tariffs filtering through. As I said Trump is great for the US and the dismantling of the loopy side of the left. Absolute dogsht for Australia.
You have to factor in a crash as our economy is built on shaky ground.

But aren't we the 51st State of the Good 'ol US of A????
We must be because we had the "Deputy Sherriff' domiciled here back in John Howard's time, groveller.

Something that isn't talked much about on the forum, is the U.S welfare system, here is an article on retirement pensions.
It interested me, because I was recently told thr pension in the U.S isn't means tested, which surprised me.

Donald Trump unbridled and with the gloves off in the primaries, fighting the machine and its apparatchicks back in 2016!

Annabel Crabb always offers an incisive real politlk view of the world.
This is no exception.

Asking how the US could elect a convicted felon or criticising Trump's cabinet picks is missing the point. Literalism in politics is dead

ABC luvvy Annabel Crabb should stick to hosting politicians to din-dins at her twee cottage.

"Join Annabel Crabb for a brand new season as she breaks bread with eight of the Federal Parliament's most fascinating and powerful figures from across the political spectrum."

Is there a softer side to Thorpe :D

Crabb better pretends she likes the food.

Even The Shovel can't be xucked keeping up with Trumps spectacular selections for Cabinet positions.

They have posted a generic story to cover all the nominations equally well.

Least Qualified Person Imaginable Appointed to Key Trump Administration Post

News Story Template for new Trump Administration Appointment

A person without any of the required skills, experience, qualifications, temperament, insight, understanding, character traits, or know-how to run an important US Administration post has been appointed to that important US Administration post, Donald Trump has announced.

The person, <insert name>, has never worked in the area that they will soon be in charge of, and/or has actively sought to undermine it.
Announcing the appointment, Trump said the person who has absolutely no understanding of <health, the economy, education, defence, world affairs – insert as appropriate> is the perfect person to be in charge of <health, the economy, education, defence, world affairs – insert as appropriate>.

“<Insert name> is great. A lot of people are saying how great they are,” Trump said, in an in-depth explanation of the new appointment.
The appointment follows a long vetting processes which involved finding the least appropriate person for the job, and then seeking out someone even less appropriate than that.

In response to the appointment, Americans <were totally unsurprised, shrugged, had stopped even paying attention to this ****>.
