Recently my pet cat went missing. I always fed it and care for but it seems to have dissapeared. Does anyone know where a cat would go?

Perhaps he just had a rough night and is somewhere sleeping it off.

I assume that you have checked under the house, in the shed, vehicles, spare rooms or anywhere else it might have become stuck in? Neighbours' sheds and houses (if they are away for Easter) too.

If the cat wasn't old and was an expensive breed then it's possible that it has been stolen. This is quite common.

Don't read the following if you don't like bad news.

It's quite common for cats to disappear or do other unusual things when their life comes to an end. My parents' just under 20 year old cat had basically never left the property during its entire life (apart from involuntary visits to the vet). Anyway, the cat suddenly started wandering off the property and was seen quite some distance away exploring the area. It was suddenly spending all day out and about and seemed to be taking a somewhat methodical approach to exploring its' surroundings. The cat died at home due to kidney failure about one week after completing its exploration of the area. Photo taken about 12 months earlier (the carpet pattern is a bit dated... :p: ).

The bottom line is that cats do know when their time is up. I know other people who have had old cats simply disappear or do other unusual things when the time comes.

Sorry to not be more optimistic but if the cat was reasonably old then I suspect that this is what's happened. Vets seem to consider anything over 8 years to be "old" but in my experience most cats live 12 - 18 years. :2twocents

i've seen alot of people with stickers on thier cars which say 'missing cat? check my tyres" not sure if that helps :(

I managed to accidentally lock the next door neighbours cat in our shed for about a week...They asked if we had seen it a few days later when I finally opened the shed it came out and its nose was all scratched up from trying to get out..

if your cat is a valuable breed it may have been stolen. This happened in my street recently.

A while ago one of my cats got quite sick. It had a huge absess on its back and the vet said it may not survive. that night I went in to see the cat and it pretty much said goodbye (it licked my face, something it never did...ever) and didnt seem to have the will to live. At that point I took action. I forced the absess to burst (dont ask) and within hours the cat was completely different. It made a full recovery. The funny thing is, her behavior has completely changed. The cat used to only show affection around meal time. Now it shows affection often.....perhaps it knows I saved it and is grateful :)

lol.... this would be my guess too....

Or if you lived near me I'd say the coyotes probably ate him. Coyotes love house cats. The quail population has improve dramatically since coyotes showed up in "The Blue Ridge" about ten years ago. They eat foxes, skunks, possums, and house cats which are all enemies of the quail (or the quail's eggs). Another plus is.... the cyotes are also fun to shoot. but.... so are house cats.

http://www.nps.gov/rocr/natural/coyotefaq.htm (see question 5)

btw?.... do Dingo's eat house cats?

Hi Crackatown

Sorry about your cat

Maybe you could check the stormwater drains if you have any in your street.

Cheers

Just noticed that sam76 is "Banned".... wonder if the above comment "did him in"? Hope not. Seemed like a perfectly sound explaination to me. How about it Wayne?

lol.... well realize that I haven't visited the forum for a few months.... I thought that (maybe) this was his last post.

I did not know that you could change the text under your name. I just learned something new. So what does it take to get banned around here?

I'm really sorry about your cat. Do hope it turns up again soon or someone finds it inadvertently trapped somewhere.

Goodness, with help like this who needs enemies!

I am with one of the more helpful posters - our cat disappeared for a couple of days, then she suddenly appeared on the doormat. She is a roaming kind of gal and decided to have a look through our neighbours house. She got locked up in their cellar for a while! Of course she was totally ferile when they opened the door and had left a few calling cards :p: They are quite efficient at storing up water apparently and can survive for a while without it!

So maybe she has just been delayed for a while and will just turn up again - cats do that sort of thing!

I have "inadvertently" shot a few house cats....

Hope this makes you feel better,
our cat has gone missing twice, once for about a week another time nine days.
First time dont know why, second time after coming back from the vet, after the much needed snip. The general consensus at that time was ,what did you expect he was upset at losing his you know what, however he hasnt been missing since, hope he turns up. :)

ok all jokes aside, I do hope your cat turns up.

Pets are family members.

Sorry dude if it was innapropriate.. m(_ _)m

Thats some of the funniest stuff Ive read in a longtime.
