Koran Verse of the Day

"Women shall with justice have rights similar to those exercised against them, although men have a status above women. God is mighty and wise." The Cow 2:28

Not that I agree with it, but its in the book.

It never ceases to amaze me how those on the left of politics will lay into the bible and christian godbotherors, but leave the koran as a criticism free zone. Pathetic really. gg

I have been asked at short notice to assist a mate of mine in the castration of some 30 bulls on his property.

I am now setting off to his property just south of Normanton in my aged commodore.

Should telstra not provide a line, I thought it prescient to post the next koran verse lest the godbotherers on the bible verse hog the threads on superstition.

59

she lay weeping on a carpet, but the glance of its eyes lit up the chamber as if the sun had suddenly risen therein. She rose from her couch, and gazed with wonder on the beautiful bird, which opened its mouth and said, "Rise and follow me, for Allah has pitied thy tears, and will unite thee to thy husband." She rose and followed the raven, which flew before her, changing the night into day by the light of its eyes, and the morning star had not yet risen when she arrived at the grotto. The raven now cried, "Kanuch, arise, and admit thy wife," and then vanished.

Within a year after their reunion she gave birth to a son, who was the very image of Seth, and the light of prophecy shone on his brow. His father called him Salih (the pious), for he trusted to bring him up in the faith of the one only God, and in piety of life; but soon after Salih's birth Kanuch died, and the raven from Paradise came again to the grotto to take back Ragwha and her son to the city of Djundu, where Salih grew rapidly in mind and body, to the admiration of his mother, and of all who came to visit them; and at the age of eighteen he was the most powerful and handsome, as well as the most gifted youth of his time.

It then came to pass that the descendants of Ham undertook an expedition against the Thamudites,

good stuff I reckon,

That would come under religious intolerance....

maybe you know what you're talking about, but I don't think anyone else does.
"those on the left of politics?"
"lay into the godbotherors" - by your choice of words you are laying into them yourself. Are you from the left then?
"pathetic really?" so what do you think of a post that make the most ludicrous charges without any references

Sounds like there's just as much claptrap in the Koran as there is in the Bible.
Probably every religion has its own book that contains plenty of fanciful nonsense.
I've never read the Koran.....presumably, like the Bible, it makes menacing threats about what will happen to non-believers?

Pity the religious fanatics and crackpots can't realise that the type pf person you are, the way you live your life, and in particular how you treat other people, are far more important than what you believe.
This business of 'If you don't believe such and such you're doomed to a life in eternal hell', is nothing more than idiotic rubbish believed by gullible people.

I thought pedentic people will like to point out that Quran is the collect spelling....

Most of the translation by GG seem to make no sense, and contains references to modern objects and is thus not a correct translation.. Care to give your source GG?

All the critics of paradise and hell based system, care to give an alternate?

There are a million alternatives only limited by imagination. All of which (including the current doctrines) are likely to be wrong.

You're born, you live, you die. And after you're dead it'll be just like it was before you were born. Anything else is just ego and/or wishful thinking.

'pedentic'? Did you mean 'pedantic' by any chance?

And did you mean 'alternative', rather than 'alternate'?
Not that I'm trying to be pedantic or anything! lol

As for offering an alternative to the paradise and hell based system....how about when we die we don't go to another life, we just cease to exist, our remains decompose into the ground, same as happens to other animals when they die.
Humans are a species of animal just like monkeys and bears and dogs and rats are species of animals. Apart from our superior intelligence and different habits to other animals, we're really no different to them when we're alive and there's no reason we'll be any different to them after we die.
We're not going to any particular place just because some book says so.

I have poor english sense and spellings are the bane of my existance. Just wanted to point out the wrong spelling..

On the topic of living a life without any consequence does not sound good to me. It can lead to total choas, without divine fundamentals (like thou shall not steal etc.), this world will be a scary place to be.

Animalistically (aka darwinism), might is right and thus one can argue that stealing is good, because it will get rid of the weak among us. Same goes for all the other crimes, because they can be justified by the devil's advocate.

Who said anything about living life without consequence?
Throughout our lives there will be consequences arising from the choices we make.
If we steal, chances are we'll be punished with a prison term. And we'll lose the respect of our relatives and friends.
If we treat people with a lack of consideration, chances are we'll be disliked and disrespected.
If we're kind hearted and we help people where we can, chances are we'll lead fulfilling lives with many close friends.
And so on and so on.......

You don't need 'divine fundamentals' to live your life as a decent person. What you need is a considerate nature and self respect. And a good upbringing helps too.
If the choices you make are based on your fear of what will happen to you in the next life if you don't do the right thing in this life, then I would suggest you're on the wrong track.
I have no fear of the next life, because I don't believe there is a next life. Yet I still live my life as basically a decent person.

Amen to that! You're going to heaven bunyip. Probably moreso than some weekend Catholic who has their sins wiped away by a single Hail Mary.

I'm going to heaven?? Geez Kennas....that's a bit of a worry!
All those billions of souls up there overcrowding the place to breaking point, and the place becoming more crowded every day!
Having to do my bit in helping God to run his kingdom, sort of a bit like being a member of the government if you like.....never really saw myself as a politician!
Having to rub shoulders with all those Muslim suicide bombers who have gone to paradise before me. With the constant noise of hundreds of them fornicating with their eighty virgins per man, a bloke will never be able to get any sleep!
Wonder if I'll be allowed to take my laptop with me so I can continue to trade currencies.

Well there will be a lot of ex-virgins running around. You mightn't have time to trade... or the inclination!

Most important task is to hang around the Pearly Gates for a while and listen to all the jokes and send them back to us in the jokes thread somehow. Cheers! kennas

They shall praise who is on high and not that which is from below. Our presence will not be seen as so good to those who do not praise him but in being struck down will be seen. A storm shall fall apon them and all those who do not see this the light and falling further shall take up the light. Having seen the way they shall follow and not fall again as their strength has been revealed.

That reminds me of a joke involving three nuns meeting St Peter at the Pearly Gates. I'll put it on the jokes thread.

You could be right there Wayne....maybe this heaven place is starting to sound all right afterall!

The bible thread is becoming way too serious and as an antidote I thought I'd post one of the prophet's less controversial verses.

Thank god whenever the bible gets too controversial one can always flip to the quran for a dose of how shall I say John Pilger-like certainty.

By the way I thought I saw the little leftie in Melbourne today, I was down there to have a meal with some Opes Prime victims in a rather nice Sicilian restaurant in the city, a mate from Ingham is trying to flog them shares in a Safari Park he's starting in Cairns.

He (John) was surrounded by some pasty acolytes wearing Colin the Babywhale badges. Its a small world.

I digress.

Read the book. the quran I mean.

24:31 And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment save to their own husbands or fathers or husbands' fathers, or their sons or their husbands' sons, or their brothers or their brothers' sons or sisters' sons, or their women, or their slaves, or male attendants who lack vigour, or children who know naught of women's nakedness. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And turn unto Allah together, O believers, in order that ye may succeed.

Goodness, GG, it sounds as though the Koran (?Quran) is encouraging incest with that passage.
