iPhone - Are you getting one too?

I dont care about the MMS stuff, I still love it. I now have immediate access to emails, an excellent calendar set up, internet, not to mention some really fun games , all my music, my photos, and even my favourite 3 movies that I have managed to convert from DVD to iphone format. My life is in my phone!

Cost? I think I can do $7 a month; we have always had Optus plan so the contract thing isn't an issue and it has really made me much more organised. I know I can get this with other phones, but nothing that has all of the above in it!

Dont get too many phone calls though!

Phone resellers usually have to 'special order' phones like the Blackberry etc. so nothing to do with Apple Holidays!

Don't get me wrong it is a great phone, and if we had got it for the price Apple had announced it worldwide for of $299US it would have made it a fantastic phone given our dollar was near parity.

But at the $850-$900 or however they bundle it, it compares itself to some of the other high end phones, and when Apple forgets to squeeze in the mms, bluetooth transfer features, not to mention only 2mb camera, no infared, no wifi N standard, no memory card reader and locks you into the mac format instead of non properitry standard, it's not so appealing IMO.

It seems to do all that most other phones do by way of syncing data and storing files, so thumbs up there.

Also from what I've heard you can't take the battery out to replace it, and have to book it into a repair centre.

All that aside, It would more than satify most that were new to these pda high end phones, and taken by the flash menus, and slim packaging.

Ummm, yes actually, there are plenty of phones that have been out for a few years that do all and much more than the iphone.

Glad you like yours, though

I had a 1st Gen iphone (unlocked) and it's perfect for travel - watching tv shows etc on the plane - the screen is very high quality. It's an intuitive interface, not perfect but certainly everything I want or need. The Bloomberg app from the app store is worth downloading for those who have one (yes it's free), also a free currency converter.

Which model is that 8/16GB, as sounds like a great deal, and is that phone+plan total repayment.

Thanks

Hey Tekman, I have always been on a $49 month business plan which included a very basic phone. So the iphone is only costing me an additional $7 a month on top of what I have been paying for years. But now I dont need to upgrade my ipod which is a few years old now and not much storage. It also gives me a download of 500mb a month - in the first three weeks when I have been using it heaps, I still have only used around 70mb, so 500mb is heaps.

Travel is where it will be great, I no longer have to take the ipod plus mobile plus all the chargers that requires, and I can access my emails without having to find a computer or take a laptop. Plus have all my photos etc with me. Hey Broadside the currency converter sounds an excellent idea.

The 16gb one has allowed me to have around 40 photos, about 4gigs of songs and three movies (Pretty woman, Love Actually and My Best friends Wedding!!!) so I can watch them whenever I want. The picture is amazing quality. I have only used half the storage so far!

Yes the battery needs specialist replacement but I am getting 3 days use without a charge so after 300 charges (900 days!) I can cope with that, or maybe get a new one by then!

Think you should get around 4000 photos @ 2mb + all other stuff you mentioned, as my N95 8GB does that in high res.

I C why your excited to go from a basic freebee phone to something like that for a mere $7 would be like extreme.

p.s If you can try to stick to mp4 & mp2 for video & mp3 for audio.

Yes, nothing like upgrading from nothing to almost everything! I also really like QWERTY keyboard that appears when you need it - I have trouble seeing the screens on the other phones but have no problems at all with Iphone; and I find the touch screen really easy to use as well. Must have a look for some more photos then, musn't I.

I now have a new favourite application which is free! Called Shazaam, if you hear some music you like but dont know the name, you point the iphone at the source and it will identify the music and artist, then it can flick you to itunes where for around $2 you can download it immediately to the phone. That is pretty amazing if you are really into your music.

When we first got into mp3 players a few years ago, we decided to avoid the ipod hype and we all purchased Creative brand mp3 players. But very soon we realised it had become an ipod world and the 'add ons' and accessories for ipod, including cheaper generic add-ons, were huge, but virtually nil for the creative and i-rivers of this world. Same applies to iphone, the applications available for it, as well as the accessories, are just awesome.

Am I the only one here who loves their IPhone?

I love your IPhone and would like to borrow it on the weekends, as my N95 doesn't have the Touchscreen, and my N96 when released won't have touchedscreen either, BUT with have digital tv tuner, to catch the market news of course.

Does anyone know if you really need to pay for the unlocking fees (e.g. Telstra charges $150 to unlock) if you're on a postpaid plan with the provider? Or the unlocking fees mainly applies to prepaid/outright phones rather?

Any comment?

Optus locks the iphone to the actual sim card, so it only works with 1 sim. Previously, as long as the sim card was with the optus (or same) network you could use any of their sim cards but the iphone will only register with the one sim. So yes, you do need to pay to unlock, even to use another sim card (Tried to use my son's optus sim and it wouldnt register) A shame because we used to swap phones from time to time.

i have an iphone... nearly a month now and love it. Touch wood haven't had any issues with it at all.... great piece of technology.

I was going to get the new SE X1 but it runs windows which requires a lot of processing power and the X1 lacks in processor power, but you never know... its looks awsome.

Its the interface that does it for the iphone. Everything runs so smoothly.. no lagging. I sent pictures through email... just like an mms. I set up a gmail account that is viewed instantly on my iphone... i got my partner to do the same and now we can send pictures if we want.
