Naturally one would look at the traditional war stocks aero (and space) tech, naval, terrestrial, weaponry, explosives and the like but also, hi-tech especially robotics (drones/AV), AI, low power/high efficiency products, bio-tech and the medical/surgical industries including big pharma.

Water could become a big issue so Coca Cola will be there again.

Staples will still need to be provided not only to the front lines but all of us behind that line.

As an aside.
My dearly departed mum would often recount the days back in WWII when Mussolini's mob came to the family farm and "requisitioned" livestock (horses, cows, pigs, sheep, goats), gold and silver including her mother's only piece of jewellery, her wedding ring.
The Fascists did this more than once to the point they even took their last milking cow.

That stuff stays with you forever and no wonder both mum and dad immigrated and become Aussies!

That is the end of story for everything. At least in the old days basic physical capacities would have been possible. As Dona points out the entire infrastructure that supports our way of life will be knocked out and effectively irreparable on large scale.

Survival after such a situation could be in a few forms.

1) Special self contained bunkers that could sustain people for both the initial disaster and maybe afterwards
2) Perhaps isolated communities that have set themselves up for survival after society breakdown. Frankly I think a nuclear war is beyond that scope.
3) Isolated pockets of people in industrialized counties who are largely rural and relatively self sufficient
4) Other pockets of people in very isolated regions in third world countries who again are largely self sufficient. New Guinea tribesmen in the back blocks come to mind.

Realistically I think almost all other centres will collapse from direct blast, radiation and then society collapse with little food, water, energy and then disease.

I think I would prefer the AI solution to both of those problems Wayne. Probably more sensitive and specific.
