I get it from IG for 30$ or 4 trades a month.

Heres anz tick chart

Only have to pay for asx data rest is free, I have never tried to trade from tick data yet.

Why does a "trend follower " want to use tick?

Why does a "trend follower " want to use tick?

Not tick as such, but intraday nonetheless.
5min or 15min bars will do.

Well with some modifications, you could apply an EOD or weekly trend following method to say 15minute bars data to increase opportunity and trade frequency.

By increasing trade frequency, you can increase the number of times you are exploiting you edge.

Its an idea at least worth testing.
