Since you've already have your IB account open, have you tried "Transfer Position" under Account Management?

Ill have a look, for what its worth....i mean someone at IB would still have to physically do something to make the exchange happen, i would think..anyway ill report back.

I have been with IB for years with a p/l company a/c and personal a/c [very happy with fees and mobile app]

Have any of your accountants had problems interpreting the figures?
Mine seems to

I do option trading [sell puts and calls and roll out if I look like being exercised] and share trading and it seems they do not record it on a cash basis but on accruals
That is as of 30/6 I cannot interpret what my option trading income is for the year as carry over options I have running are still there

Also why do they do the dividend accruals - is not just the 1 list OK

And market to market and month to month realised and unrealised - that seems to confuse

anyway ill report back.

Just to wrap this episode up, IB came good today and my stock transfer went through...it took over 2 weeks and about 7 emails, 10 IB support tickets and 6 phone calls, but it did work eventually.

Just glad i can get on with things. :)

Sounds like a pain in the backside. Good that you are a long term holder!

IB is not currently offering margin accounts for Australian customers and cannot give an answer when or if they will ever be made available again..

Does anybody have any more information about this?

Hello all new member here,

after starting an IB account about 6 weeks ago, when i joined they said i would be able to apply for a reg T margin account in a couple of weeks time, Just got off the phone to IB today have had similar results to others here, no time frame, they will not say what the problem is or if the account will ever be able to be upgraded to a margin account. Was keen to know if anyone else has been able to get any more information out of them than that, will probably have to move to another broker but not too sure where to go at the moment.

Thanks

I do believe that Reg T margin will be available again in 1 or 2 months as they say.. If existing customers can still have margin I don't see why they'd be turning away new business in the future permanently.. its just a restructure..

Only 1/10 consultants in account support actually have a clue.. thats what causes all this confusion..

What markets are you trading?

I was hoping to start trading small blocks of NASDAQ and NYSE stocks actively as a start. Did you end up starting with another broker? anyone have any recommendations was looking at tradestation and lightspeed as possibilities but haven't done enough research yet to make a decision?

Right now I'm on a 1 month demo account with MB trading which ties in with Multicharts.. paper trading with free market data for a while

Waiting for IB to offer me Reg T again so I can return to my usual routine.. FTSE 100 Z contract, FX Majors and the first 2 hours of New York equities and futures trading

If you're trading small blocks perhaps just use your IB cash account and play on the long side only.. probably save a trader from getting lit up trying to short this market anyway.. lol

There is a free version of MC 8.7 available that works with the market data from MB trading, IB etc.. I haven't been able to trade from the charts in MC yet, instead I use the MB trading web app in combination with MC:

http://www.multicharts.com/se/

I cannot recommend MB trading as I've not been with them for long and only on demo..

I have heard good things about lightspeed, however, what puts me off is that they only list Realtick and their own software as accepted platforms.. I plan to stick with MC

Hey guys I have recently joined IB as well and have been unable to obtain margin.. seems its definitely an issue with new accounts.

I have another issue, but this might clear up once margin is sorted, my intention is to be using IB to trade Credit call/put spreads.... I have been tinkering around and running a few trial trades but get a notification stating I cannot go short and need xx amount of funds to cover this. It seems that the system is disregarding my bought call/put where the real risk is 500 or so.

Is anyone trading these strategies able to elaborate?

Cheers!

Are you putting them in as a combo order? If you are legging in with the short first, it would be a problem.

I have bought the long leg of a spread and then added the short later with no problems so not sure what's happening. I did have sufficient funds in the account to handle normal margin on the short so it might be different circumstances for you. Maybe give the IB Sydney office a call - you will probably get someone in Hong Kong but have found them to be helpful.

Hello all,

Today when I placed a limit sell order for an ETF to open a short position about 10mins prior to Close of Market I got the following pop-up. All the other ETF orders went through.

"SELL 52 ILF ARCA @ 37.32”
Imbalance orders cannot be placed during when market is open.

Anybody has ideas what this could indicate. I can't seem to find any reference to above on IB website.

Cheers

Are you sure you didn't choose a limit on close or market on close order? They have weird rules for on-close orders in the US

You are probably correct. Looking back, it was an LOC order and perhaps too close to the Close of the market. Still curious as to what do they mean by "imbalance orders".

Cheers

does IB provide the indicative auction price for ASX stocks? earlier in the thread someone mentioned they don't. has this changed since? the aussie close is pretty big so i wouldn't want to miss it.

Not as far as I'm aware kefa. I'm still using webiress to get indicative pricing.
