Interactive Brokers

What do you mean by this?

What kind of protection are you after that they don't provide?

I made a post a couple of pages back https://www.aussiestockforums.com/threads/interactive-brokers.10838/page-107#post-1073894 and got some responses. I emailed IB and they confirmed the same. There is basically no protection for our US shares which I find unacceptable really.

Previously when AU clients were registered under IBKR US we had the same protections that US clients have (SIPC 500k shares/250k cash + Lloyd's insurance). But for IB AU customers, there's nothing except a fund that 'may' provide compensation and only in relation to ASX shares.

I started getting the "Downloading settings from server failed" error with TWS today, despite no changes on my PC. Anyone else got that?

In the warning window the percentage preset limit can be adjusted.

Happened again today. I adjusted the percentage last time during a 'test' - this time, there is no option to change the percentage. My order is capped to 5.14. So the only way to enter on the open (where it is opening about 5% above the previous close) is with a market order I guess.

Hmm, I use STP LMT orders on IB and havent seen this before but my Limit is always within a couple of points of the Buy Stop. I can see their point from an orderly market perspective.

Are your volumes significant enough that you might only get a partial fill with a tight Limit Order? Or is it more that you want to catch a breakout? You could do just a Buy Stop only (as you say, at Market) but that does leave you exposed to prices gapping up, paricularly if you are trading breakouts.

Hi again.

Not sure if a Market Order will give you the opening price, never tried it. Perhaps raise a ticket, responses are normally prompt.

I note other exchanges do have a Market On Open order type, not ours.

Their info on price capping online says that price caps will not be removed and you need to contact them on about each order. That is ridiculous if the market is about to open. You may only have a few minutes.

Turns out in my case it was nothing to do with my network or security settings, because I disabled everything. The problem seems to be TWS somehow corrupted the settings at IB's server when it updated itself yesterday. I fixed it by uploading new settings to server now it no longer complains.

Hi, I've opened an account and I am considering switching over to IB as my main broker.

I use the order book and flow as part of my trading system. So I was wondering if someone could share a TWS screenshot of what the market depthvisual looks like for ASX trading - I'll probably subscribe to the data pack with/without chi-x - thanks!

OK, so I am based in Australia, and have been doing some covered writes on circa A$500k of ASX shares.
I am looking to move these to IB, not least as the CBA commission is bad, and CBA wont let me do anything but covered writes, but I want to understand the likely Margin logic for the options at IB, given they wont directly use the shares as collateral like CBA does. Will it end up being expensive.

Also, on option trades, are IB quick into the market - CBA are so slow !

Many thanks,

Brian

IB Margin requirements won't be as huge and orders are straight to market

Aussie bank brokers excessively pump up margins, post corona meltdown margins were pumped up again ! The reason CBA are so slowww !! is because of manual intervention on their end.

can we not do zero cost combo orders on IB anymore?

could've sworn i've done them before, but now it says "invalid order price" when i was trying to put on a zero cost diagonal the other day. i didn't leave the field blank, i specifically typed in 0 as the limit. it accepted the order if i put -0.01 or 0.01 as the limit though.

Hi,

Just tested a zero price, no issues..

Is anyone having trouble recently with the IB app?

I'm on iPhone and previously it was quick to login and load prices/watchlist/portfolio now it is very slow to login and every watchlist and portfolio view takes ages to load.
