Interactive Brokers Troubleshooting

Yep... Had the same thing all morning.

Just stuck at the time in the bottom right hand corner, I logged on. Can't click on anything. Completely locked up.

Mine started working again at around 11.30am...

I have no idea what happened..

Yep, same here. Twice today and happened about a week ago as well.

Steve. Why hasn't or when will IB turn on the ASX index data?

You have them listed in your securities search but they aren't available in TWS. I have raised this question before and you said to request them via a trouble ticket which I did but got back a "sorry at this time we can't help you" reply

We've had some problems with it. I won't go into specific details but we are working on it. We're currently programming a better portfolio margining algorithm for clients holding portfolios of ASX stocks and options which will provide a number of advantages for customers particlularly compared to the margin algorithm that we currently have. This will then allow us to offer XJO options, and switch on the index data.

been some dramas today with IB, they have a technical issue (as yet unresolved) whereby the exchange isn't reporting back to IB. there was a problem this morning with a stop not appearing as triggered as well as some buy signals during the day that TWS shows as untriggered.

the stop was triggered so i am hoping the buys went as well, its just that IB isn't receiving the information back from the ASX to update our TWS (acronyms FTW). tech support is checking my trades, and there is no ETA on when it will be fixed, although phone support has been helpful. AFAIK. FYI. DYOR. TMFA.

** trades were executed but not registered by TWS or the online web trader interface. no ETA on a fix.

But I did notice that transmittions were acknowledged.

I also cancelled a pending trade ok.

i`m not happy

it was announced that only the simulated orders were cancelled, but all my buy and sell orders disappeared as well.

nice ofcourse to have all the bells and whistles with IB, but you cant really trust their technology

Seriously Ive not had a problem.

Customer service report that all trades transmitted before tuesday were all cancelled.
Nice surprise if you were favourably positioned in a queue.

Not crash hot if you can't sit in front of your computer all day.

How do I get my bracket orders back up?

What an absolute pain in the ass.

i clobbered all my open orders and redid them, and a limit trade and stop trade to make up for the brackets. meh tech fks up from time to time, still not too bad for a $6 broker.

I can remember trying to learn the oco orders... too damn complicated without brackets if I remember.

You have to be careful with the way you have those orders set above. If your stop or exit is triggered, the other order will still be active.

There was an exchange update over the weekend, that we tested and it worked fine. However, on Monday, we realised we were not receiving fill messages from the exchange for around 85% of the orders that were submitted. Order placement was working fine all day, and we were able to confirm executions with customers throughout the day. The executions were placed into customers accounts manually.

On Tuesday, because we had not received an electronic execution report from the exchange for most of Monday's executions, all these orders were resubmitted to the exchange. The only way we could stop this from happening was to purge working orders. Not ideal, but better than having duplicate executions.

The key in these situations is to follow the colour codes of your order status, and to contact us if it does not look right, e.g. limit orders when working at the exchange will go green... if you see the price trade through and haven't received a fill, then call to confirm status. Similarly, if you cancel an order and don't receive a confirmed out then also call.

Took a long long time for my open trades to show up on TWS this morning. Scared the absolute crap out of me.

Hope that isn't going to become a regular feature.

This could be really obvious once someone points out how to but right now its got my head spinning (so many configuration options in TWS)

In TWS I have an existing position, now how do I attach a bracket order to it?

There are instructions for attaching bracket orders for working orders, however, I didn't find any for existing positions!

Anyone? Steve - Maybe you can point me in the right direction.

Do a serach for bracket orders in the online users guide from TWS in the help menu.

Or a search for One-Cancels-All (OCA) orders

TH - Thanks for your efforts. Bracket orders are available/enabled for working orders. However, not for existing ones (i.e.) When I select an open position from my portfolio page and right-click, the context menu doesn't show bracket order. I can see "Bracket Orders" in the "Order" menu in the menu bar, but it's disabled.

The joys of learning a new platform!

You are long BHP.

Enable OCO orders in the page layout columns.

Then create a sell Limit order at your target for BHP and name it "BHP bracket" in the OCO column then,

a Stop Sell Market order and name it "BHP bracket" in the OCO column.

Hit transmit on both orders.

You now have your bracket orders a limit order with a linked stop. Just test it first. You know DYOR stuff.
