I should just clarify that the family situation I mentioned was not actually an immigrant family, not that that makes any difference. I quoted the amount received on welfare as typical of what any similar family, immigrant or other, would receive.

Quite honestly i don't care if they are thrown in the western suburbs but come on why the hell is the government putting them up in leafy eastern suburbs....lol

Asian refugees at least come from a society where people live in villages and are somewhat civilised.....these guys are coming straight from a free for all warzone. Im sorry to generalise but these guys are really terrible as a number of my friends have been victims of racism/violence from these thugs,

You are, I think unfairly, lumping them all in together.

I will never make excuses for bad behaviour of any kind. However, I just don't think it's possible for us who have lived all our lives in a peaceful and democratic society to understand what it must do to people to be constantly attacked and threatened, murdered and raped, in their own country. And for so many years the international community just looked the other way.

By all means criticise anti social behaviour. But remember that it is not confined to people who have fled war, famine and political upheaval.

i hope we are not jumping to conclusions too quickly here... these Africans have barely been in our country... they need to be given time..

i can see them become valuable contributors to society in the future, their skills on the sporting field are second to none... soccer, athletics, etc.... their music with the bongo drums, etc is so vibrant and alive.... they add real colour to society...

it was not that long ago that the Irish were being bagged by the English, then they ganged up on the Italians and Greeks, then they all ganged up on the Asians... and now it seems everyone is ganging up on the Sudanese...

I fully agree with Bobby, new comers must be taught the values, culture and expectations of what it is to be Australian.... we must make every attempt to genuinely make them feel part of the community and integrate them into Australian society… its important not to marginalise them and isolate them... its important that they can find jobs, etc to start quickly assimilating into western society... and that can only happen with support. (and I don’t mean social security benefits)

but if you don’t give them that opportunity, to then turn around and bag them, is just wrong….

Visa fraud suspects fled after wiring $1m overseas

A corrupt Immigration Department official and her husband helped run a $3 million criminal migration racket involving more than 1000 fraudulent visa applications.

Fairfax Media can reveal that Reetika Ajjan and her husband, Jeetender, were able to flee Australia three days after immigration and federal agents raided their home in October 2011 – having wired more than $1 million to overseas bank accounts in 48 hours. Investigators had failed to take basic measures to stop them from leaving the country.

Last month, Fairfax Media tracked down Ms Ajjan living openly in Delhi, but she declined to answer questions about her role in dealing with the proceeds of crime or supplying sensitive government information and equipment to the illegal migration operation. The operation was run by Mr Ajjan and a federal-government-licensed migration agent, Mahimn Sodhani.

Fairfax Media can also reveal: The federal government has issued new licences in the past six months to migration agents previously identified by the Immigration Department as having bribed employers to obtain fake work references for visa applicants.

The department failed to investigate evidence of entrenched migration fraud involving 457 skilled worker visas and some of Australia's biggest infrastructure and mining projects.

The fraud involves a large multinational contractor, Murphy Pipe & Civil, which has worked on the Queensland Curtis liquefied natural gas project and Western Australia's Sino Iron project.

Leaked confidential company documents, along with statements from sources with detailed knowledge of the company's internal workings, have revealed how it has sponsored many Irish workers as ''project administrators'' or in other skilled roles, but employed them as labourers, machine operators and storemen.

The way this all came about was that housing affordability was an issue. So instead of cutting right back on immigration and foreign investment, governments allowed developers open slather (to increase supply). You can't drive 100m without bumping into a new building site here. All that's happened is a feeding frenzy of real estate transactions, with no change in prices. I know agents who were taking massive cash deposits on multiple apartments at once, and just guess where the money was coming from? The problems were made worse by governments terrified of cutting immigration.

So now we have kids living with their parents up until 30's, we have massive apartments on every corner, old homes being levelled to build multi-dwelling sites. Most suburban side streets have cars parked both sides, and navigating your way through is difficult. I spoke to a developer who told me the boom had about a year to run. By then the damage will be done and of course people keep having babies. The poorer they are, the more they have. Another government-inspired trend.
