Hi,

Has anyone used IC-Investor analysis software? I'm looking for a subjective comparison between IC-I and Metastock and Bullcharts. Interested in developing and using Technical/Mechanical trading systems, new to the software game and would appreciate any help/thoughts/comments. Thanks.

Re: Trading Software

Hi aem,

I had a sneak peek at IC-I looks like it could make things more interesting for a chum like me, Thanx. like most packets now days I quess it comes with a price. I,m only looking but does it?

After reading your question it seems you are looking for something a bit different, is that because IC-I doesn't really offer what you need or want, or is it simply just hype? Thats the thing about Investment software, it always seems good on the out side and when you open the package it really does nothing for you but empty your wallet. So lets be careful and not jump into the quick sand. :cautious:

You say interested in developing and using Technical/Mathamatical systems. I know very little of Megastock but I have used Bullcharts, I thought Bullcharts was excellent if not good but there scanning technique, far fetched. I say theres always alot of homework to be done, to find a system, that is right for you and of course there is a price. I know of a far few systems, that may be right for you, but I will have to read more further into this thread to help find that perfect system for you.

Until then have you ever tryed Pro-Trader, www.protrader.com.au it is very much a technical/Mathamatical Adventure in many ways, that concentrates on the Nicholis Darvas Theory, well presented, neet and tidy, now trading in 3 different countries I think. Also complete with broker /education saminars passed through the pal talk messanger and much more. Well worth a looking into. :D

I have the C.D at home but choose not to be a member at this time for financial reasons only. But very determined to use it even though I already use the Star Trader/ http://www.mci-t.net.au/contact.html I think Pro-Trader is still valued at $800 full membership. Take a look, you should enjoy?

If you ever decide to get involved into the Pro-Trader system, Please get on back to me I will be very interested, in your apinion. :)

Stocky,
There's a thread on ProTrader (Darvas Box), just use the search tool to see what people said about it.

Re: Trading Software

To everyone....does anyone know of any basic/simple software that can:-

(a)deliver an audible/visual alert when any share hits a programmed setting. That setting being a percentage , MACD or volume for example.

(b)scan the market intraday , daily , weekly and monthly.

(c)is under $1000.

*Note...it has to be able to scan the whole market and not just pre set shares.

All responses welcome .:) thanks.

Hi Wysiwyg, give Amibroker a look. The Standard edition ($US 150) would be enough. I use PremiumData for eod data, $30/month - For $5 extra you can get intraday as well. I chose them because it seemed to plug in very nicely to AmiBroker. With the data, come predefined watchlists such as S&P/ASX100, 200, etc and your requirement to scan the whole market would be easy, just set it to use 'all ords'.

AmiBroker will be able to either play a sound (or voice, whatever) when a condition is reached, or send you an email. Hell, I should get a referral fee from these guys :D Seriously I highly recommend it, it's very cheap for what you actually get.

Thanks Mr.woodoo,
It looks like what I`m after and have sent them an e-mail to confirm a few things.

Thanks so much again.I did look at amibroker before but now will send the e-mail to sure up a few things with them.:)

Re: Trading Software

1st time poster!

Does anyone know of a data collection package that is essentially a spreadsheet (eg. Excel) that comes with (without getting into too much detail) ...
  • a set of predefined functions (eg.
    GETPRICEHISTORY(asxcode,datefrom, dateto, ...)
    GETSALESHISTORY(asxcode, datetimefrom, datetimeto, ...)
  • a set of predefined charts that are populated by data retrieved by the predefined functions
  • the usual automatic capturing and updating of data that you want to 'watch'
  • allows you to define your own conditional trading rules (as complex as you like based on any of the data that is available within your spreadsheet) and submit your orders (again, using predefined functions within the spreadsheet) to your eBroker automatically, based on these conditions

To explain ... I spend hours watching figures on packaged software on my PC, extracting certain data from the package and dumping it into a spreadsheet for further analysis based on my own spreadsheet formulae ... don't we all! Then I make a decision, go back to the packaged software and issue either orders or conditional trades with my eBroker, needing to remember that after this trade is successful I might then need to set up a pile of additional orders to satisfy the trading plan for the asset (and the trading plan might depend on the results of analysis of the asset!).

We all know that a lot of the data made available in packages is very useful, and we all know that the customisable features of a spreadsheet can make you very powerful. So, the question is ... is there a customisable spreadsheet package out there that can give me both the usefulness of the data it collects, the power to define my own rules and actions, and an interface with suitable eBrokers.

A key advantage I'm looking for is to be able to manage my trading plan by defining it within the spreadsheet and then having it executed because certain data conditions are detected and acted on. It overcomes the need to use the eBrokers conditional trades (eg. Stop Loss) and thereby avoid their additional fees.

I appreciate any (useful) response.
