HVN - Harvey Norman Holdings

Good morning all. I was planning to pick up HVN when sp kept falling but Thks to ASF, read postings, decide to take it off my watchlist.
A fair comment, I bought a 8 seater wooden dinning seating last yr, the customer services was fantastic, exchanging damage chairs efficiently not once but a couple of times.

Gerry Harvey providing unlicensed financial advice to Mum & Dad investors, suggesting HVN is worth $6-$8 and advising others to buy.

I made the same comment elsewhere, unbelievable! The accounting in their H1 report was ambitious as well, relied on some very optimistic RE valuations to say the least!

There is no price at which I would buy HVN, I consider it uninvestible due Gerry Harvey's lack of integrity.

8/4/23 - I know Gerry is not very popular with ASF punters – but I find HVN a pretty good stock to trade although the Candlestick Signals are a bit hard to read at times.. Had a few alarms go off recently as SP has dropped to an acceptable level (a bit lower would be good, but $3.67 will do ).

Nothing attractive about the HVN Chart apart from the Long Standing Gap Down (pages 203 – 201) @ $4.20 to $3.85 Area…. There are Weak Resistance Lines everywhere, the strongest & most important one for me is @ $4.06…. At the current SP of $3.67 HVN has 5 Resistance Lines (see pages 35) immediately above $3.67 and numerous others up to the old High’s of $6.00…..

Had some spare time so took a look at the HVN Financials….. Interesting, as Gerry reckons HVN is valued at about $6.00 to $8.00…..

Anyhow I have attached my Chart & FA for anyone that’s interested…..

And the HVN CGVI is also very interesting.

actually i was hoping a little higher ( about $3.75 ) so i can take some cash off the table

one of those 'falling knife stocks for me , tends to hit patches of unpopularity , but somehow still ekes out a div. most years ( might have something to do with Gerry holding a big slab of shares )

Harvey Norman is a good place to take your Mum to.

Took my Mum to buy her a TV and got good advice as she wanted a smart tv but easy to get used to.

I have bought a mobile phone there for a very good price in the recent past.

Will soon be taking Mother in law there to get a couple of things for her new smaller house now her husband has passed.

I like the place as the sales staff are pretty good and they have nearly everything in store. Better staff than Bunnings or JB Hifi.

Harvey Norman has issued a warning, stating that it expects a significant decline in earnings for 2023. The company's chairman, billionaire Gerry Harvey, attributes this forecasted drop to the series of interest rate hikes implemented by the Reserve Bank, which has negatively impacted business and consumer sales.

...of course he would.

i would have been shocked if he gave any other sort of forecast in that sector

now maybe Gerry would snatch up a BNPL train-wreck it bring it in-house , much like the old Myer-card

Gerry will find a new angle , don't you worry about that ( but to expect profits to be down sounds reasonable to me )

Caution Around Harvey Norman (ASX: HVN) Growth Prospects

i wouldn't be surprised if short-sellers hired a triple-decker bus to get onto ( the sell-side of ) HVN

the EU is failing ( so the HVN franchises there must be under pressure ) i don't see massive improvements in Oz sales in the near future maybe HVN can gain market share if rivals start to fail

however if the SP drops enough i would be willing to add to my position ( but i will be wanting them pretty freaking cheap )

wouldn't be surprised if Gerry makes a left-field acquisition , or would he introduce a share buy-back to increase his hold on the company

( i hold HVN )

With Gerry who knows what the next card is up his sleeve. He hasn't got to be where he is by foolish actions.

I'd agree with that, but it is their big problem imo, Mums don't spend much.

Locally here, HN feels like a bowling club.

400m from them is JB's and it is comfortably more modern and eye-grabbing.
last time i went into JBH , i got sticker shock and was so dazed i didn't buy the keyboard i went in for , i ended up buying one in Big W for another ( unpleasantly ) unforgettable experience ( i hold WOW 'free-carried' )

HVN up here is situated in inconvenient sites , so have yet to actually shop there

Re: HVN - Harvey Norman

I cant believe its almost a year since the last posts here about HVN. I wonder how you guys went after all and if you managed to hold on to this stock as it seems to have gone a little since than (same as everything else:)

I also tried to analyse their last annual report on my site http://sog.shopinthemall.com/2007/01/19/australia-harvey-norman-holdings-ltd/
and so far I like it best amongst the aussie retailers.

Its as aussie comp as it gets with Gerry Harvey himself still holding around 30% of the stock and other top managers another 48%. Thats probabaly why they manage the business as if it was their own:) Seems to me that they are reluctant to take much debt on board and are still making decent returns on their existing equity year after year.
On the downside, HVN's shareprices are always pretty high (measured by P/e) as I suppose the stock is held in high regard with most of the share investors so jumping it now could be too costly.

I am wondering what others have to say.
Cheers
