How long will you live?

Of course, you're right. I just posted it up in the face of not much interesting discussion on a long weekend.

Hit the nail on the head there Julia.
I think the world is a **** place and hope I don't live to 90 or 100!
I'm glad someone picked up on my comment about the dubious value of living to an old age. Fine if you're still healthy and independent, but the idea of shuffling round some horrible nursing home is less than attractive.

Actually, noco, although I treat the questionnaire and its results as just a bit of amusement, I've been receiving the newsletter from this site for a couple of years. No marketing of anything that I've noticed, just the newsletter every two or three months. I get a lot more spam from financial websites.

Julia, a David Williams is the founder of MY LONGEVITY PTY LTD and is a personal retirement and financial planner as well as being responsible for marketing his services and has been in the business for some 20 years. It is a good marketing ploy, but is not as bad as some. He is also tied up, I believe, with insurance.

He engages a company known as IT Worx Consulting Pty Ltd to set up his web site, which, as you well know are not cheap.

I did read his Newsletter No. 14 March 2010 and noted one pargraph in particular which quoted, " Talk to your professional advisers such as your Doctor, your Dentist and your FINANCIAL ADVISER about your plans".

He could not possibly afford to pay a web site specialist and publish a news letter without some monetary gain and I guess that would come from his financial planning services, which I agree, is your choice to use or leave it alone.

There is some shonky marketing going on and as I stated previously, they are out to get your name and addy.

Food for thought.

Well, that seems like pretty good advice to me. The last time I saw the stats, about 40% of Australians over 25 do not have a valid Will.
And only about 10% have an Enduring Power of Attorney, and fewer again have an Advance Health Directive. So I'd say some advice about estate and personal planning is absolutely in order.
He's not saying "talk to ME" about this stuff, simply that you need to have the appropriate discussions with your own advisers, medical and financial.

The web is full of people seeking to market their services. Nothing wrong with that. He has simply found a quite cute gimmick in terms of the "How long will you live" questionnaire to draw attention to his website.

As I said before, I've never received any spamming from him at all.

Prompted by this thread I have been thinking about getting a container and filling it with marbles to represent how many weeks I have to live. Removing one each week.

But it is too expensive to buy that many marbles.
Thinking about ball bearing.
Can anybody suggest a good place to buy bulk ball bearing or some otherthing I can use to keep reminding myself my time is running out.

For as long as I can -- maybe I should give up the drink?
