Honesty

I lost a locker key @ olympic pool once, I was so worried and diving deep in the water trying to find it.

They said if I couldn't find it by the end of the day they'd charge me $50 (wow, $50 for a key..) - someone returned it though so I didn't get charged which was nice.

Also on the train my bag had holes in it and my dictaphone - my most critical device @ work with intelectual property and important data popped out. I was ready to get out of the train without noticing and an Asian guy gave it to me before I got off which was a pretty damn big relief. I gave him some Huntley's newsletters in return LOL (hope he doesn't go broke because of it).

But yeah Sydneysiders are mainly one of the most hive minded assholes in the universe but there are some needles in the haystack.

Once I woke up too early and caught the bus to work, wasn't really awake and left my wallet on the bus. Then I called up the bus depot a few times and by the afternoon the wallet had been returned.
Then I caught the bus back home, as I was pulling out my wallet to put the bus ticket in, the bus driver lady told me that she had handed in that wallet earlier in the day. On another bus stop near the depot away from my normal route!

Good karma for you Julia. It amazes me at times the condescending attitude that an increasing amount of Australians show toward Asians. My wife is Japanese and her brain cannot even comprehend "theft". When living in Tokyo I once left my mobile and cash-filled wallet in a manga kissa only to go back two days later to find it all still there, cash intact!

Too many times I have been with my wife when some Neanderthal Australians have called out things like "dumb slapper", and this to a person who holds a PhD in English Lit. and speaks three languages.

Glad you got your bag back.
