Help with photo editing

Anybody have any tips for reasonable Photo editing software around the $50 mark?

i recommend the gimp if you want to do image manipulation. it provides a comparable toolset to photoshop (which costs about $1500) only it is free.

Thanks for the reply burglar. It is suppose to be a birthday present so a free one doesn't feel right (even though GIMP might do the job).
