Steve Keen says we are going down the same path as the Japanese and will stay depressed for years to come.
I think thats quite possible.

What I'd like to know is how has this effected the Japanese, how is their life different to ours, is real estate a thing to have over there or is it cash or what ?

By understanding the position they are in compared to us we may get an idea of what we're in for and be able to plan for it.

One key aspect where I know Aust is different to Japan is in personal savings. I was listening to ABC 702 where they had an economist discussing the financial crisis and Japanese citizens have the equivalent of $70,000 in personal savings for every adult.

They could literally spend their way out of recession every easily yet the problem is they cannot be tempted into spending the money they have saved. They are conservative by their nature, hence their large savings and the recession will most likely convince them to save more to "protect" themselves.

The key to not doubling up is to focus the discussion as precisely as possible. The first step in doing that is taking a few moments to thoughtfully consider the thread title. The thread title should sum up what the thread is about as accurately as possible and as concisely as possible.

I have had to rename many, many threads where the title has just been 'Question', without any further elaboration. :banghead:

Off topic but intrested actually

Joe do you read every post that appears ?or have you got some buzzer thingo that sounds when there is a problem in the threads ?

just intrested as noticed many a time u just pop up out of nowhere and fix /or reply to the issue fairly quickly

There are a few indicators that attract my attention and often cause me to jump into a thread:

A thread getting a lot of posts very quickly = trouble (most likely personal insults being thrown around)
A post in a stock thread by someone with a tendency to ramp/downramp = trouble
Vague thread title = Need to rename thread to focus the discussion
New ASF member posting about a product or service = likely spam

That's just a few. :D

Anyway, back on topic now.
