Hi All,
We were discussing this last night and thought i would tap into the experience here. We would love to eventually (in a few years from now) move and work somewhere in Asia or South America but dont really know how to go about it.
To those who have worked overseas, how did you go about getting work over there?Friends, current employers, agencies or just packing up and hoping?
Does anyone have any experience gaining work in a country outside of Europe, where English isn't the main language?
Hi.
Check out the site ExFin. It helps with a lot of info.
You can also ask them questions.
I have two sons who work overseas. One flyin-flyout, and the other works for Woodside
at the moment in South Korea.
One is a process control engineer and the other is an electrical supervisor at Goro at the moment.
The engineer has worked in numerous places, London, Russia, South Africa on oil gas etc. He travels in his time off and has been to 30 odd countries. The other guy was at Freeport in Indonesia before Goro, and is going to South Korea soon.
If you intend to work overseas to save money, you should be aware of new tax laws implemented by Rudd. i.e. you pay the specific country tax, then pay gillard the extra to your tax bracket. The Engineer is Snowboarding in Japan at the moment, but will be back at work next week, if you want to know anything.
I could give you his email once I check with him. He may be able to advise you.
Basically that all I can say. oh yeah, they make good money.
Cheers
