Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

does all this megastock data work with prota gold?

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

Does Metastock use MQ4 or MQL files?

I use Metatrader4 for forex and wondering how i could convert these indicators (MQ4 and EX) to be used in metastock.

Thanks,
Paul

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

This is a hack if you like of the CommSec charts but you can download full EOD history(up to 10 years) for any ASX listed stock through the following:

http://charts.comsec.com.au/HistoryData/HistoryData.dll/GetData?TimePeriod=10yr&.csv&Symbol=BHP

Change the last 3 letters to the stock you want!

Enjoy!!!

Would anyone have any details on the parameters used in the URL? I am particularly interested in the TimePeriod parameter.

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

Easiest way I think is to just buy one of those yahoo data downloaders, I have hsquote updates all the stocks and a few futures and currencies in one click eod once its setup.

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

That is a valid approach if you want to download manually etc. I'm setting up an automated service that will download from a number of different sources in the early hours of the morning, load the results into a database and perform some analysis for me, so that the results are waiting for me in my in box when I log on.

Monitoring % fall from highest high, % rise from lowest low, MA crossovers etc, all graphed with buy, sell, hold indicators. All the basic stuff that we should do and yet so few of us actually do - to those that do congratulations. I have a computer and the skills to do this and believe that the long term investment in setting it up will pay dividends. It will not trade for me, just perform the analysis and monitoring that should be done more frequently than at present. If I have a plan and the system monitors in accordance with the plan then I have no excuse for not taking action when the plan says 'do something'.

The requirement for multiple sources comes about as a result of float seeming to be off the air since the 14 Feb. Also by having multiple I can confirm figures and remove / suppress records that are invalid etc.

This will run as a service under windows hence no UI application is allowed. Yahoo and cooltrader will be used weekly to fill in any blanks - but there should not be any, and they will have to be run manually, but thats not where I am currently focussed.

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

I've been using float.com too. Just got back from a two week work trip and tried to download the lastest EOD info and can only get up to the last day I've already got (14feb) !!!!
Whats goin on????
The registrant of the float.com.au website is a systems consultant and this website is a hobby of him. I have sent him an email to ask what his plans are. It could be that it has become too expensive to provide for free (too much traffic). I'll let you know his response.

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

Another alternative would be Cooltrader; you have to register but it provides free EOD data available the next day if you don't want to pay. Yahoo and float don't seem to be very reliable...

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

Just starting using this, but wanted to know whether the TimePeriod can be changed from yr to either a day or month. Tried various combinations for day (d; da; dy) and all return server errors?

Any idea what symbol to use for day and month only data download?

Thx

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

try these 1mo,2mo,3mo,6mo,1yr,2yr,3yr,4yr,5yr,10yr
i dont think there are any others

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

Is there a way to import the comsec charts that are output to a file by the link in the post "http://charts.comsec.com.au/HistoryData/HistoryData.dll/GetData?TimePeriod=10yr&.csv&Symbol=BHP" into metastock. I have tried all sorts of editing and conversion programs. I'm guessing the format is incorrect.. Thanks..

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

looks like free reliable EOD historical data doesn't exist?

If anyone's found some, please share :)

If you want quality data you need to pay for it - period. You need to look at it as a cost of business and if you are serious about getting the most out of Amibroker or Metastock you need quality data.

I can highly recommend Premium Data.

Otherwise look at charting programs like incredible charts for free or cheaper options for EOD charts.
