hi
i was wondering whether there are any free asx data feeds out there for metastock etc..
i didn't realize you had to subscribe to the majority at a monthly price :banghead:
i posted another thread -cpFinder but no one replied so i thought i might try posting something which might be familiar to all

thanks

Re: Free ASX Data Feeds for Metastock etc?

Databull is OK...but there is a one off fee for the software.
www.databull.com
No problems once the databases of symbols you want are set up. I just set it to download a file every day and import it. If I am away for a few weeks I can do one historical update which is easier than importing 15 daily emails from a service provider.
Quick, easy and cost effective.

Who do you have a broker account with? Some online brokers provide free EOD as part of the service.

I've been using float.com too. Just got back from a two week work trip and tried to download the lastest EOD info and can only get up to the last day I've already got (14feb) !!!!
Whats goin on????

Think they are a combined subsidiary of Allco & ABC learning. :microwave

no idea but I remember this happening before. They may be back but its very dodgy.

kingie,

If you use a broker like Comsec then you can download prices from there. Otherwise, use yahoo, and there are other groups on yahoo that can email you the data. Also cooltrader (if you register) you can get the data from free the day after. Otherwise, if you have a paid subscription with cooltrader then you can get it the same day.

Tim

PS. I used to use float but it is a tad unreliable and you get stacks of errors if loading in amibroker (mainly due to rows contains 0 entries)

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

tcoastes,
I tried using Commsec last year for EOD data and the info was all messed up. But I just went back and tried again and it looks good to me.
Ill wait until it converts to confirm the accuracy.
Cheers mate.

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

Never had a problem with Float datawise but, yes, they've done this before. Ever try contacting "them" by email? Don't bother... they don't respond. I find them somewhat of a mystery!!
Anyone out there who can explain?:confused:

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

rhen, my son is learning to trade using incred charts, I gave him a metastock disc with plenty of history, but he failed to get float.com's data into MS.

Apparently it zips down in text form. What is required to get the data into MS.

His computer is filled with garbage and needs a reformat which could be contributing to the problem, but I would appreciate any help to get him going

Austek you need to run the text file through the Downloader that comes with MS. The Downloader coverts text to MS data.

If I get a chance today I will post some screen shots on how to set up

Re: Free ASX data feeds for Metastock etc?

Many thanks IF. My Daughter in the family is the computer wiz but MS & the Downloader are a touch out of her expertise. So your snapshots will be a big help

Austek,
The Incredible Charts I know, is a great way to learn. I used it for some time in earlier learning times (still learning of course). Metastock I have not used. FCPro is the program I download to. I'm sure there are many members who use MS...hope they can help you.
