Charlie is going to be sorely missed, I am so glad I went to the Berkshire Hathaway meeting this year, Charlie’s mind was sharp and witty right till the end.Legend! He always impressed me.
One half of the Lennon McCartney of investing.
Did the stock take a hit?Charlie is going to be sorely missed, I am so glad I went to the Berkshire Hathaway meeting this year, Charlie’s mind was sharp and witty right till the end.
I owe a huge debt to both Warren and Charlie, I would be in a very different place financially if it weren’t for the lessons I learned from the two of them.
In my investment journey I have enjoyed better than average results, because I stood on the shoulders of giants, Charlie was one of those giants.
Down $4.30 for the week, but still up $9 for the month.Did the stock take a hit?
Always wondered what would happen when those two passed.
Warren and Charlie have/had a powerful draw though. Fan favourites. Although companies like Apple continued on without jobs, but I think innovation died with him to a certain degree. It was never the same. Probably made more money but it was a lot more soulless.Down $4.30 for the week, but still up $9 for the month.
I think Berkshire will be fine after Warren and Charlie, there is already a management team in place.
Warrens job is being divided among 3 guys,
1,Greg Abel will be CEO and manage all the 100% owned operating businesses and large capital allocations.
2, Ted and Todd will manage the stock portfolio.
All three are already in their positions doing their jobs.
The insurance businesses will continue to be run by the same guy running them now.
Yep, Charlie would have turned 100 on 1st of January.Warren and Charlie have/had a powerful draw though. Fan favourites. Sad as an investor seeing some of the greats disappear. But what am I expecting, the guy was 100 or something wasn't he?
Can't ask for a better innings.
Damn I'm getting old. That's probably what's upsetting me.
Everyone's demise is always going to come. But Berkshire has proved to be an amazing companyYep, Charlie would have turned 100 on 1st of January.
Berkshire is probably the most de-centralised company in the world, they own like 100 businesses, all with their own management, and have large share holdings in major companies.
Even if you shut the head office in Omaha down, and just employed a book keeper to cash the dividend checks as the come in and roll the bonds Berkshire would keep growing in value.
So, although it’s going to be sad to lose Warren one day, Berkshire is going to be fine. Greg Abel is an amazing manager, so Berkshire is in good hands.
It sure has, I think it’s more than just a company, it’s a system at this stage.Everyone's demise is always going to come. But Berkshire has proved to be an amazing company
Great rider in his day, there wasn't any electronic aids back then, seat of the pants and no fear won the day.Former Moto G P rider Anthony Gobert ( "The Go-Show" ) died form his addictions , after a few weeks in palliative care on the Gold Coast.
He lost his Suzuki Factory ride after failing a drug test 20 years ago, then lost his girlfriend to an overdose and it was all downhill for the poor bugger after that.
Tragically , he was just 48 years old.
Had a good innings. The last Rat of Tobruk.
Legends and good blokes.
Australia's last Rat of Tobruk Tom Pritchard dies aged 102
He was the last direct link with the 14,000 Australian servicemen who held the Libyan port of Tobruk against the German Africa Corps in 1941, a vital battle for the Allied forces.www.abc.net.au
Had a good innings.
Joined up as an underage in the medical core.
Probably very lucky just to survive in that arena.
@IFocus At The Lakes is Harry Weeks pullover site.Met a few Rats of Tobruk over the years without exception very humble gents they all had the same story in as much they had SFA to fight the Germans with but got on with it.
Don't know if anyone remembers Harry Weeks Mundarings infamous shire traffic copper (booked his own wife) his brother served in Tobruk was in the same fox hole as my sisters freinds father (Sawyers Valley local ) every time a shell landed nearby Harrys brother used to stick his head up to have a look unfortunately a sniper shot him between the eyes RIP.
Was told that story matter of factly that's what happens in war.
