Do you ever tick the wrong box with results that you do not want and cost you in hard cash?

Today I decided to sell some CFE and buy some BUL with the proceeds. On values it looked a good proposition. I filled out the order for CFE and instead of ticking sell I ticked buy. Of course I wanted to sell at the top so I ended up buying at the top. Then CFE fell about 10% in the next half hour so my sell order placed at less than my buy did not get filled. Then on the other side I missed the bottom for BUL. Not the best of days. Still hold the expensive CFE and don't hold enough BUL and that's no bull.

Yep, with software the way it is, it is fairly easy to make a mistake, especially if you are trading CFD's which are executed in an instant. I reckon the key is, if you make a mistake, get out IMMEDIATELY..... Hope you come out the end with hairs on your chest there nioka...

Cheers

I clicked the buy instead of the sell button once.

Twice, actually.

It's frustrating when this happens.

We seem to have mitigated this problem for ourselves (touch wood) by writing down our trades in advance, marking the Buys in green and the Sells in red. The possibility of transcription error seems less when the pressure is not on in real time to get the order correct.

Interested that you did not immediately correct the error.

Hello

You are not alone, i have done it to but I guess you knowing that won't ease your pain

It was immediately filled because my buy price was equal to a sellers price. I only realised my stupid error when I tried to find my place in the sellers queue. The problem would not have been so bad had CFE not gone into a free fall for some reason I have yet to find. At least CFE has recovered a bit and so I now have a bigger investment there than I had counted on having.

The moral. Act in haste repent at leisure.

Hello,

A bit away from the subject I know, but starting to think I might of ticked the wrong box at the last election !

Regards

yes have done this before, bought when I should have sold.

Now I write out every order and check it agaisnt the screen before pressing the confirm button. It's also good to have a copy of the order for your trading diary.
