Elon Musk to make Twitter a free speech platform

We I saw my dad bash my mums teeth out when I was about 8, bit he never bashed my sisters, I copped it a lot until I was about 20 and bashed the $hit out of him.
But as for boys beating girls I don't know, never grew up with any.
Yea, bad luck it wasn't filmed and shown to the world hey? Maybe today it wouldn't be happening (not).

No, instead in your world it is ok to let the Albanese government and the eSafety Commision ban information that depicts a true terrorist event from one media source. How does that work?

NSW Police presented a fact sheet to a court showing that a group of teenagers they arrested, some of them not 10 years older than the children chanting the slogans of hate at Sydney University, had a plan to get weapons and kill Australian Jews.
One event didn’t cause the other. But Albanese government ministers avoided condemning the wicked exploitation of children. The Albanese government has been grossly, morally and politically negligent in failing to make a serious effort to combat the wave of hateful anti-Semitism sweeping across our universities and many other parts of our community.
The Albanese government can have its views about the Middle East, but it has an absolute duty to provide for the security and safety of Australian citizens. Its failure, root and branch, in season and out, to condemn the shocking anti-Semitism displayed every day is a grave mistake – morally, politically and in terms of national security.

Again, completely irrelevant. ??
BTW I have voted conservative more times than Labor so bringing up Albo doesn't give me a rush to the head. My sister in law is a senior figure in the Liberal party.
And again I will point out Dutton also doesn't want bloodshed videos freely posted on X or the news etc.

If you came from the U.K in the early 1960's it was common place and it has actually improved a huge amount over the last 30 years, it isn't acceptable anymore.
Back in the 60's and early 70's seeing mums shopping wearing sunglasses was common, the best thing Gough did was to introduce the single mothers pension so mothers could leave with the kids.
But not many these days understand that, before Gough if a mother left with the kids she had zero support, zip, nothing.

However as time passes we excusing perpatrators of crime more and more, so are we in fact renewing the cycle?
Life is full of cunundrums, unfortunately those who have no idea of the reality, decide what needs to be done to fix it.

Anyway enough on our life's experiences, the wise and wonderful in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne will sort it, as they sort everything else out.

Why do you feel the need to substantiate yourself?

As you keep saying to me "completely irrelevant". Though I'm not sure why also question it by adding two question marks.

I mentioned Anthony Albanese because he is our Prime Minister and leader of our country, all decisions rest on his shoulders.

I must be 10 years younger thant you, I know exactly what you are saying but it was the 1970's.

Why are you avoiding the argument?

Yes I was trying to keep it relitive, if you say 40 or 50 years ago, people's eyes roll back and they go FFS.

And you are correct, it is a different world now, we have improved immensely. But all these privacy claims and legal jargon seems to be turning us around again. The facts are showing no decrease in the past 8 years. Why?

Because there are a certain percentage of duds in life, what the loonies think is that all the duds need is a bit of nurturing and understanding, that is until they have a dud in their house who actually doesn't really give a $hit.
Then it gets real.

Then it gets real.
The problem is, no one can actually vocalise what the problem is anymore, because they will be shouted down, demonised, ostricised or sued.

So therefore the silent 80% minority say nothing and just hope that bad $hit doesn't happen to them or their loved ones, meanwhile the duds become more brazen.

Hopefully society realises the gap between an authoritarian regime, which rules by the majority being silenced by fear, is a very fine line.

If the only difference, is whether the fear is physical punishment, or public humiliation.

Exactly. And when someone from the 80% gets tired of the silence and says something they get a torrent of slurs and abuse.

Which is what I was alluding to in the last paragraph.

In Russia if you say something against the narrative you are in deep $hit.

Here if you say something against the narrative you are in deep $hit.

The only difference is we have a better political voting system, our media is very similar, it is polarised.
So therefore whichever Govt is in office is in synch with the Govt of the day.

The problem is IMO, people feel they have to defend "the political team" to the end, even if the policy is crap and also they have to pay out on the other team, if the policy is good. That to me isn't following your beliefs, it is a cult nature.
You have to question, you have cross reference, you have to evaluate.

How the hell you expect to get a better outcome with that belief, is beyond me.

But then again when I did a psych test, they did say I didn't think inside the box, but I did get the job. LOL

Anyway enough of this crap. Lol

There's a couple of things you seem....
You seem to know a little about one event in what was a Ten Thousand day War. Also that being that title of a book I read, but unfortunatly no longer have a copy of, on Vietnam conflict, I read that the late 80's. The facts you seem to think I've plucked from my arse come from a couple of works I do have in my possesion John Pilgers 'Heroes' and Chistopher Hithens 'The Trial of Henry Kissinger'.
Until 15-20 years ago when information became much easier to research I was under the misunderstanding that the news reel footage of the Siagon street execution was taken by a news crew lead by Neil Davis ....ever heard of him?
The above and time spent on the ground in Vietnam. Lot of knock off printings of Greame Greens 'the Quiet American' for sale on the street there.
Seymor Hearsh's work on the the Mai Li massicare is aslo well worth the effort.

Now.. as you seem to have an interest. And to lable the point.
Question... Have you ever seen the motion news reel footage of the execution?
Next ... Can you view it now somewhere ... dark or light web now?
Why is something that was open domian now so difficult to view ? any thoughts?

These matter because of what able to be seen and what is not... And context.

Without Assanage how would of the obilteration of the the Reuters Journo's on the streets of Bagdad by Apchie 30mm cannon ever come to meaningful contempry light ? .... A whole lot of Butt hurt by either stoogges, incompetents or cowards who call themselves 'journalists' unable to to present what's going on are really the people anyone should be paying attention to? Carry on with your Crusade.
Or are you telling us that 'we' should not have seen the 'Collatoral Murder' postings???

And .... 'do I know how the internet works?' ..... at your leasure check 10 year old's access to pr0n....Well, I can't be all that sure about a lot of things but of one I can be. When it come to being a patronising horses arse: I'm sure to leave you well in the shade. But for genorosity's sake, for time being I'll anoit you the 'crown prince' .

Orr "One Crowded Hour" by Tim Bowden good read.

In NSW police attend around 500 DV events every day.

Victorian police are arresting 80 men a day over family violence.

Youth crime using knives is common.

And here we are advocating showing gratuitous violence in violation of Australia's broadcasting standards which have been developed over decades.

Research is endless on the effects of exposing particularly children and young men to this sort of content.

Anyone spot the problem here.

That’s nice.

Yes, I see a problem. We have a eSafety Commission and a government wanting to ban a true event and stop a subscription media format from showing, while doing nothing about the free to air format showing fake violence through movies and shows, and reality shows that are demeaning and misleading. And don’t forget about the violence and pornography on the internet that any person of any age can access with a phone or computer.

No don’t worry about that, let’s ban the actual event and watch the made up violence instead.

My goodness, has society really come to this. People condoning the banning of facts in the name of decency, while allowing fictious violence and sex to roam free.

Is the eSafety Commission going to ban this latest news item involving factual senseless violence -

If you argue with your partner and the police turn up they will basically slap an avo on you in the police's name, man or woman. The courts are clogged with idiotic avos that should never have been put on in the first place. It's massively out of control. But the police will let the judge decide rather than risk being responsible if things went bad. The rise is due to changes in law netting everyone because it's a patch job.

Youth knife crime is mainly immigrants. You can't just jam hundreds of thousands of people here and expect it to be smooth sailing.
Let's break down violence to see how many aboriginal or immigrants or kids of immigrants and really see where problems need to be solved. It's more likely due to a disconnect from being a part of society.

Realistically this argument is akin to the "violent movies are making people kill" or the "Reefer madness". Internet has always been the same. Nerds ain't going on rampages from content.

I have two around 10, both tech savvy. Neither have had a problem. I also have a 16yo. If you as a parent haven't instilled some sense of morals then it doesn't matter what they watch, they will simply lose their way from having no moral compass. There are parental blocks you can use if you are that way inclined.

Violent crime is down. It was a lot worse in my day as was DV and there was no internet and everything was censored or govt propaganda. So now you lot are clutching pearls over what, not being censored enough?
I'd argue the violence statistics don't back up any rise in uncensored internet.

I'd argue that all social media is harmful to mental health but not because of content. It's the way the algorithm grabs attention. I'd also say it doesn't cause violence it causes anxiety.
