Thanks Sam, that's right folks voice out your anger and frustration rather than keeping it to yourself, after all that's what this Forum is all about helping each other in the good times and the bad times.

I've posted this elsewhere - to be juxtaposed with a cartoon. Why , I'm not sure. Just that I'm told that laughter is the best medicine (?). Even if the wobbly-pitch bits of said laughter are becoming a bit of a worry.

However, in all seriousness, it's a good point.
I'm sitting on some serious paper losses, probably soon to become real losses.
My super's going down the gurler, the government/bankers/hedge funds/Wall st, etc, are eroding (read STEALING) my investments and savings, and the so called executives/manager dickheads are still getting obscene bonuses (read THEFT).
Does depress me on occassions but Ah, but what the hell, it's only money.
Then there's all the good things in life.
And of course, the ASF is a great place to let off steam.

IM out of the market since August 2007 and I was chatting with a mate on two points:

1. I am REFUSING to look at housing as a commodity any longer - he agrees (worked for APRA) and will look elsewhere for investment in future.
2. I just got a vege patch and 4 chooks!! And enjoying every bit of it with my nearly 3 year old daughter

Kick back - life is too short and the great thing about this shake up is hopefully it will bring back some balance.

Housing never was an investment commodity in the past, it was always the investment for people who didn't know any better, low returns no capital growth, expensive to maintain and run UNTIL interest rates dropped to all time lows AND STAYED THERE for years, all of a sudden residential property skyrocketed and all the passve investors for once got lucky, many of them thought they were sooooo smart but it was just dumb luck brought on by sustained low interest rates.

Commercial and industrial real estate was always the choice for the smart investor, no so much now unless there's a development angle in there.

Of course now with decreasing asset values you are wise to be out of it unless there's some very good reason to get in, now, when you buy something, it's dropped in value by the time you settle.

There is always someone out there worse off. I was in the Solomon Islands a few years back, and it makes you realise how lucky we are.

After having a quick look at the market after open, i headed down to the gym in a cr@ppy mood, then got pi$$ed because no matter how hard I tried I couldnt deadlift 205KG Afterwards, whilst on the treadmill, I seen a disabled kid with his carer come in, and they were trying to get him to use some of the exercise machines. For me, it was another one of those moments that puts everything in to perspective

I imagine you're feeling somewhat better about copping the loss on IPL now, given subsequent events?

Yes Julia. 20% lost on IPL in one week hurt, but I am looking at re-entering. Just a bit hesitant though. Down 68% on FMG too. Too late to sell now though IMO. I am just very thankful it happened now when I'm very new to this and dont have a whole lot in. This has been a very big learning experience
