I am a customer of Interactive Brokers. I would like to have access to real-time bid/ask price/volume of Australian stocks. IBKR offers Chi-X L1 stock quotes at AUD7.5 per month. I don't see any ASX L1 stock quotes available.

Anyone knows if Chi-X stock quotes include stocks on ASX?

Yes. Chi-X is an exchange that offers trading of ASX listed stocks. However, looking at the Chi-X data will not give you the full picture of trading on any particular stock. It will only give you information on trading of that stock on Chi-X.

P.S. Just realised you were the one who started that thread!! Surely your question has been answered in that thread already.

Different question. I should have been more specific. Does the bid-ask volume on Chi-X market data offered by Interactive Brokers include the bid-ask volume of ASX? I am kind of confused. Same stock can be listed on both exchanges. So, does the Chi-X market data includes volume from both exchanges or one?

That Q can only be answered by an IB client who is forking out the $7.50/mth.
I suspect though the answer will be No. All depths I have seen so far are either-or; remember that ChiX and ASX are competitors.
In order for the answer to come out affirmative, IB would have to merge ChiX and ASX depth screens; maybe they do, but I very much doubt it.

Of course not. Chi-X data offered by anyone will only have Chi-X bid-ask volume. ASX data offered by anyone will have only ASX bid-ask volume.

If you pay for both ASX and Chi-X data in IB, you may receive combined data (I am not sure). That is certainly the case in US markets where there are several exchanges, and the IB "Smart route" function tries to get you the best fill across different exchanges automatically.

If Chi-X data is $7.50 and ASX data is $25, then it seems highly unlikely that IB will throw in ASX data for free @ just $7.50 per month?!

Hi skc,

The ASX $25 data is L2 data (includes market depth). The Chi-X $7.50 is L1 data. I only need L1 data (up to bid-ask data). There is no ASX L1 data to choose on IBKR. So, I was wondering if Chi-X L1 includes ASX L1 and the best place to ask is to here, a forum full of experienced Aussie stock investors/traders.

I got the answer. Chi-X L1 offered by IBKR does not include ASX L1 data. Customer has to subscribe to ASX L2 to get ASX L1 data. If customer subscribes to Chi-X L1, the bid/ask volume will only reflect those belonging to Chi-X. However, the bid/ask price will be same as ASX L1. THe bid/ask volume in Chi-X are always much smaller than ASX. The day when Chi-X volume catches up will be the day when ASX days are numbered.

This may not be the case for every stock, especially the smaller end of town.

The way I believe this works is if you are only subscribed to Chi-X data you will only see Chi-X depth ; when you push your buy (or sell ) order through IB's platform you will get filled from the exchange (ASX or Chi-X) at the top of the queue.

With the top stocks, depending on what you are doing and I take it you are wanting to keep your data costs down you probably only need Chi-X data to read the top of the market.

.
That is correct, and you can see which exchange, by checking your trade confirmation report
or the execution log file

I wondered what role the Chi-X system played as far as quotes and execution go because buying between the spread is invisible with Comsec market depth. I think they only quote ASX market depth but Price and Sales has everything traded on both ASX and Chi-X. Obviously showing the 1/4 cent bid/offer would crowd the market depth ladder. Maybe only Chi-X has the between spread bid/offers.
What is Chi-X Australia?
Chi-X Australia is an alternative trading venue to ASX TradeMatch on the ASX which uses its own trading system and provides trading in a subset of ASX listed securities.

As we are connected to the Chi-X Australia trading venue, we may automatically send all or part of your order to this venue to be executed, seeking the best possible price, in accordance with our Best Execution Policy.

The 1620 close time is interesting.
