If you google search "synroc" you can find out about a few things that are going on.

Pangea Resources, now via Arius, has a proposal to use geologically stable, isolated regions of the planet to mass-store nuclear waste.
The bottom line is that the uranium industry producers are also leading in the research/development of waste disposal alternatives - Cogema is probably at the forefront.
