Charlton Heston Dead at 84

Good innings, well played.

I am probably not in a position to appreciate his talent or influence, been born in 69, so I'll leave it to you old farts to pontificate.

RIP.

A pity his views on gun control will taint his legacy.

No too woried about the fart, we are all p... and wind, but resemble the old bit,

I think you young-uns (pups) would find "Ben Hur" an enjoyable movie (plenyt of action) and he was at his epic best in that. Surely video shops would still have it.

explod, hey they didn't call it bigger than Ben Hur for nothing
Ben-Hur (1959) Trailer

nice scene from "planet of the apes" too
planet of the apes

and the Ben Hur chariot races weren't bad considering
(that special FX were in their infancy etc)

I believe it may be appropriate to preface your statement with "in my opinion..."

In June 1998, Heston was elected president of the National Rifle Association, for which he had posed for ads holding a rifle. He delivered a jab at then-President Clinton, saying, "America doesn't trust you with our 21-year-old daughters, and we sure, Lord, don't trust you with our guns."

Your only as good as your last movie.

And his as a gun lobbyist was pathetic.

I must agree.

His promotion of guns made me wonder if he wasn't an unwell little puppie underneath all his bravado.

gg

didnt care for his movies, and again, as far as the gun thing was concerned, just another face from hollywood the NRA would drag out to try to give their insane cause some credence.

sometimes i wonder who are the biggest ^%$*%^* in the USA - the NRA for the religious right.

And perhaps we should ALL do the same.... great actor who, imo, was inappropriately obsessional..

And that's quite enough from you, young Kennas. You should be respectful of your elders!

I always found him somewhat wooden as an actor. Didn't know anything about his stance on guns.

A gun toting freak who made a few lack lustre movies. Lets trust his family and friends remember the good times.

cheers,

Maybe now the gun lobby wont have as much voice.

Still he has been credited for one of those great hollywood one liners that will last into the future for us who enjoyed the old fashioned tele movie.

"Get your stinkin hands of me, you damned dirty ape"

If you have to ask which movie, go ask your dad.

RIP CHARLTON

How many of us have watched old timer movies that we thought were fabulous at the time (even if watching them years after they were made, just for you Kennas), to be cringe-city when watching them now!

Ditto with these movies! Garpal, I am with you, what personality disorder was underlining these 'epic performances'!

Damn US and their gun priniciples! In my opinion of course!

"from my cold dead hand..."

I didnt go much on his gun lobby career, but i dont think its the time to start bagging the guy out as he was a strong civil rights activist as well...

some of the historical characters he played:

moses

el cid

john the baptist

michelangelo

general gordon,in khartoum

marc antony,in julius caesar & in antony & cleopatra

cardinal richelieu,in the 3 musketeers

henry V111

plus, 55 days at peking, planet of the apes,earthquake...tb

and just on this gun laws thing...

illegal firearms are easy to buy. what do you want? pistols? rifles? automatic weapons? its a joke. crimminals, or anyone for that matter can buy whatever they want, usually at market prices. under 2k will get you almost anything.

im not 'connected' anymore than the next bloke. but if i wanted an illegal firearm, i could get an arsenel this week. most people could.

what this proves, is that gun laws are designed to restric the law abiding, as they are innefective against crimminals.

While you can argue it isnt the time to bag the guy, I have always 'bagged the guy' while he was alive by maintaining his constitutional right to carry arms, and use his Hollywood persona to give his stand 'more authority'. The US treats their Hollywood stars the same way we treat out sportspeople, as Gods

So other than the 'civil right to carry arms', what other civil rights issue was he active in TB?

Maybe I have the civil right to be able to have children in a US College and not have to worry if this is the day some gun crazy idiot isn't going to have a blood thirsty day?

criminals dont care about your civil rights.....or gun laws..! how do gun laws stop crimminals?
