The 14 institutions themselves?Australia and New Zealand Bank and Commonwealth Bank, alongside a handful of other payments companies, have been selected by the Reserve Bank to take part in a pilot exploring the potential benefits of a central bank digital currency.
“We are delighted with the enthusiastic engagement by industry in this important research project. It has also been encouraging that the use case providers that have been invited to participate in the pilot span a wide range of entities in the Australian financial system, from smaller fintechs to large financial institutions,” he said.
“The pilot and broader research study that will be conducted in parallel will serve two ends – it will contribute to hands-on learning by industry, and it will add to policymakers’ understanding of how a CBDC could potentially benefit the Australian financial system and economy.”
Is the digital currency just going to be for institutional use eg between the central bank and the commercial banks, like some of the larger denominations of currency some countries have printed? Or is it actually going to be released to the public?From Evil and Biased Murdoch Press

For example is it just going to be like the $100,000 US note, that was illegal for private citizens to possess, but was used behind the scenes in interbank transactions.

There is still a lot of physical cash that moves around to settle amounts between different banks and between the central banks and the commercial bank.Why woud they bother?

had a buddy that resorted to steel handles ( shovels , brooms and rakes ) ( for everybody , and still ended up with some bent handles )Loved The Plank never ages.
On the rare occasion that I did employ anyone using turned out as a dud. One bod in particular used to break the handle on a long handle shovel just to get out of using it. Fixed after I woke up to the stint, and always carried a coupe of spare handles.
Not walking the plank I hope. I've had a couple of spills offa the plant in days gone. My dad was a painter and it was second nature for him to be bouncing along a 16 foot plank, me always like to have one foot firmly planted on terra firma. but it is just as problematic working alongside such people ( as co-workers ) especially if there is time pressure on the task/project
The plank isn't so funny to me as it brings back memories of the past
one example was .. me cutting out the upper branches of a diseased tree ( about 30 foot off the ground ) co-worker finally gets the chainsaw started and drops one of the four trees marked to go ( of course you guessed which one ) and not only that but also sent the chainsaw back to the repair shop for a week leaving the other three trees unharmedNot walking the plank I hope.
