I currently invest in property and I'm looking to diversify a little into shares as well..

Does anyone know of any good tools I can use?

I have thought about purchasing some trading software that helps you monitor trades and stop losses etc... There are so many different programs out there...

Some software can also give some guidance with working out what are possibly good buys and bad buys etc...

I have also found some online subscription places that send you reports and recommendations etc...

Can anyone advice me on what I can use as far as software and online subscriptions go?

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Start off with the brokers, etrade, comsec,
The asx site has some info for beginners
All the above are .com.au
Read AFR and Australian daily.
Browse posts on this site on the stocks you know from general knowledge, BHP., woolies etc.. ASF forum is good.
Look in the bookshop on this site for titles that take your fancy.

Any recommendations on trading software that can be used?

Forecasting software? that kinda thing?

you get nothing for nothing. After 12 yrs trading I use just one s/w sytem, Phoenix AI. That's all I need. Jim Berg and Claus Gerling are 100% trustworthy , and Alert Trader. There are bloody highwaymen out there waiting for you. . I've met most of them.

Trading Programs - What are you using????

Hi ya.

I would like to know what type of charting programs people are using and the costs associated as I am finding that the free charting software is restrictive in accessing information like RSI's, Gann Swing overlays, colour manipulation, drawing trendlines, MACD's, Setting the exponential on moving averages, 1day info then 3months (the gap is too wide) etc.

I know a lot of the free charts show this but they are often clumsy. I have tried yahoo, comsec, smh, incredible charts and find them limited.

I have used Market Analyst 3 in the past and it was inexpensive at the time. However the current Market Analyst is $99 per month to lease and $22 per month for EOD data ($1452 per year to run a charting program with data) is this excessive???

My question is what is comparable in the way of other charting software programs at an affordable cost??????

What are you guys using?? and what are their ups and downs??

Re: Trading Programs - What are you using????

Cheers Timmy I will check it out.

Why do you rate it champ??

Costs???

Re: Trading Programs - What are you using????

data - I put a link in to the Amibroker FAQ here at ASF - should give you some insight into it. It is low cost (one-off fee rather than subscription) but very powerful and adaptable.

Re: Trading Programs - What are you using????

Thank you... just downloaded the trial to push its limits....

nyce work mate!

Re: Trading Programs - What are you using????

Good luck trying to push the limits of a limitless piece of software...
It will do anything.

Reccomend it over anything.
Make sure you get some good data for it (not a once off fee), should cost you around $300 a year for data.

So thats it 90views and 2 replies, does this mean everyone is using AmiBroker!

Surely there must be others out there to compare it to.

Who would you recommend for data?

I use premiumdata
It's one of the best, 1 click download, comes with watchlists of every ASX group you can think of (makes it easy to test say asx300 or asx50 because it's all there in watchlists), all adjusted and it's just easy.. Very accurate too.

Can also try:

Metastock

There are more, some are subscription-based and some are more expensive then others:

BullCharts
FchartsSE
Investor R/T
Sierra Charts
Ensign
NinjaTrader
TradeStation
TradeGuider
Market Delta
WindoTrader
ATrader

There's more too.

Data sources (end of day ASX):
Premium Data
Cooltrader
Just Data
and there are more of these too.

Re: Trading Programs - What are you using????

Most appreciated responses Brad and Timmy.

Thank you gentlemen you have given me a great chance to reference your suggestions.

Re: Trading Programs - What are you using????

I've had Metastock EOD for a while & recommend. I've found the custom indicator builder fantastic for scanning & creating an entry watch list based on technicals. There is a lot of support in here for Amibroker and I've not compared them.

I also use Paritech Pulse for live data and also highly recommend if you're interested in direct market info. It's helped me improve exits. The Market scan feature is great for fundamentals and you can set a number of charts and common indicators for technicals. At $1400pa including data, it isn't for everyone. It also has the added benifit of an API for VB / VBA and I've built an interface into my MS Access trading diary to automate things like position sizing etc.

Re: Trading Programs - What are you using????

Metastock coupled with Tradesim for Systems testing.
Also for custom scanning.
Tradeguider for Analysis R/T trading and scanning.
AGET for Elliott and scanning.
Data feeds.
EOD Just data but would use Premium data (I'm a foundation member of Just data so payed a one off feed for 7 bourses.)
E signal for R/T.

Re: Trading Programs - What are you using????

I use CMC. Looking at different options though. Why would someone use another program over cmc? I trade SPI. What are the spreads like with other providers?

Re: Trading Programs - What are you using????

I use Dynamic Trader (Need to have an understanding of Elliot wave)

M.T.Predictor As above

Tradestation Great for charting.

Premium data who I must say are very good. The one problem I had turned out to be my fault downloading while D.T still open.

I also use Snagit for annotating charts.

Skimp on software or data and you will lose money..........I know that for a fact.!!

Re: Trading Programs - What are you using????

Just came in for a look to see what the responses were........

I like to look at things in ToS, FreeStockCharts/WindCharts but just started using AmiBroker and at the moment totally lost with the coding :)

One day I'll know what i'm doing :) for now it's newbie's luck all the way, oh and I use my good eye for picking a winner/loser. :D

Re: Trading Programs - What are you using????
