I've got one of those feelings that there is going to be a never ending ceiling to Gold & Copper Prices, regardless of short term movements, i think with the current state of the markets that these two commodities will prove to be winners, so in saying that, if you agree, what are you Stock Picks and why..

Gold... RMS, MML, FML, IGR
Copper... SFR

I'm actually much more bullish on physical silver than either Au or Cu - I recently sold half my holding of Ag kilo bullion bars held since August 2009 - for AUD$1600 each... They cost US$635 each - not bad on a 24 month timeframe. The only thing to bear in mind with silver tho' is that the price can be extremely volatile, so you have to pick your moment to sell. Best of luck :)

'I've got one of those feelings that there is going to be a never ending ceiling to Gold & Copper Prices'

Probably quite right if you take into account the 1980/1 equiv price of US$2400 per ounce I'd say.

I'm already invested in Xstrata so that ticks the boxes for a multi-producer with diverse product types however I'm now moving into rare earth stocks - the usual Ozzie contenders such as LYC (already in) and Arafura (not in - and probably won't jump in thanks to the inimitable Julia on the HC boards lol!)

Investing in gold producers at current mkt levels (price of gold, not just the stocks themselves) since they're also riding the crest of this peaking demand for the yellow shiny stuff too isn't cheap - it's totally speculative - in other words, for me, they're too expensive right now & I don't want to get into pure exploration plays either regardless of how close they are rumoured to be hitting their targets. Let's face it - if gold is the safe haven it's perceived to be - and China calls-in its T-Bills sometime soon... can you honestly see us all carrying gold coins around with us, or leaving 'em (god forbid!) in a bank's vault for safekeeping? No, neither can I... That's why I try to concentrate on companies with great management, great & growing sales, relatively low p/e's and with saleable assets in the ground... the latest of which I'm into is MLM btw - because of all of the above... (and it's a great & cheap backdoor into MTE too!). I hope all this isn't o/t too much :) Cheers, VRS

The ongoing global demand for Copper (with the onset of electric vehicles) is astounding as one electric vehicle uses about 83kg of Copper alone!

Stavely Minerals SVY just needs to locate porphyry during current drilling campaign & it will follow the likes of say a Sandfire in fast becoming a $7 type of stock imo (finger's crossed).

P.S. Copper gained another +3.18% overnight!

I feel I dipped out on SFR - psychologically hard to buy a stock that has gone up when you've been interested at much lower prices but never acted on it.

Puzzling to me that no-one ever seems to mention Newcrest (NCM) for copper exposure - almost like the gold part is a contaminant. Newcrest has Cu credits at Telfer and Cadia and also in its development projects: Red Chris, Havieron, Wafi Golpu. Newcrest's chart might be a completed massive ABC correction since Aug 2019. The rally out of that might have completed a flag. I don't go for NCM because of the New Guinea exposure, also Telfer seems rather tied up with native title concessions.

South 32 has good future copper prospects through its Ambler jv in Alaska with Canadian explorer Trilogy. There's multi billions of lbs of copper there across two deposits and cost obliterating credits envisaged for gold, silver and cobalt by-product. The prefeas for the Arctic deposit predicts Cu production at US98c/lb but is only factoring in US$1,300 Au and $18 Ag credits. S32 has been investing heaps into Ambler.

I’ve been looking at OZL for a few weeks but haven’t (yet ?) pulled the trigger.

Yes, there's someone here who sees it as a good copper pick but I don't know if he still sees it as a buy at the current price after the strong sustained rise. Tough buy after it has gone up 4x from the the Mar '20 Covid panic low. Haven't followed OZL.

SVY starting to fire up @ 0.66c +6.45% :)

SVY closed @ 0.665c +7.26% on 2.73 times normal volume :)

The stock rose above its 50 day moving average, improving its intermediate-term outlook by crossing above that important trendline.

Excerpt below from ABC News (makes SVY a more attractive proposition imo)

"Chile's lower house approved a bill that could see progressive taxes applied on the country's Copper sales from 2024," he noted.

"Chile's government has estimated that the total tax burden for large Copper miners under the bill could be over around 80% potentially delaying new output.

Chile accounts for around 26% of global mined Copper supply.

Copper gained another +1.75% overnight with Gold/Silver in the green as well :)

Apart from SVY .. are there any other good potential Copper spec plays worthy of a punt? thanks tela

SVY article excerpt as reported today:

“We are very excited to see clear indications of a second emerging discovery in the Stavely Volcanic Arc,” Executive Chairman Chris Cairns said.

“While the shallow mineral resource definition drill program at Thursday’s
Gossan is at an advanced stage, a new early-stage discovery at Toora West would confirm the prospectivity of the entire Stavely Volcanic Arc for further discoveries, further leveraging our dominant, first-mover position in this under-explored district,” he added.

Since the aircore drilling program wrapped up, Stavely drilled another 18 holes to follow-up on the visual observations. However, assays are pending.

Once the company receives the follow-up assays, Stavely will conduct more diamond drilling.

According to the company, if the follow-up diamond drilling confirms today’s discoveries, the Toora West prospect represents a significant porphyry discovery.
