Hello,

I am a trader from Vancouver Canada and am interested in trading the ASX mkt. Of course I will need real time ASX mkt data with level 2, mkt screener / most actives.

I did a search online and found a few companies.... NetQuote, Paritech - PULSE and Iress Australia (Iress Australia would be nice, but for 1100$ a month plus out of the question).

Could I get some suggestions on what system most of you locals use? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Darrell

To clarify, I will be doing intraday trading. I use interactive brokers, they do offer ASX real time data, but DO NOT provide level 2 depth, which I will need.

Thanks again for any information!

Take a look at MF Global and First Prudential Markets
Both offer discounts for regular traders and both use the IRESS platform

Cheers

I'm not looking to open another online account (like i said i trade through Interactive brokers). I am just looking for a good quote system which provides real time / level 2 depth for the ASX.

Are you serious??? The tech person I talked to on phone today said "oh yea sure 37.50$ a month for real time". So i said... "Does that INCLUDE level 2" and she said "NO"! ???

Maybe I will just add the ASX real time and test if for myself....thanks for the heads up Trembling Hand! I'll report back.

What are you guys referring to as level 2 ?

IB has 5 levels on the ASX, Iress has the entire order book.

Iress is available from various brokers here including comsec, traderdealer and bell.

I get commsec iress for free but if you don't trade through them you pay about $80 a month.

I think level 2 involves showing who is in line from other brokers etc, instead of just yours

I think CommSec have level 2, and its FREE
just sign up and drag it into QuoteTracker like i do :)

Well if that's the case the first 5 levels of iress depth (in cumulative mode) matches up precisely with the 5 levels of IB depth.

Yeah
Im not sure
Maybe IB is Level 2
In regards to the lvls
I think that they will be the same
But the "order" will be shown in level 2
Im not really sure
Sorry!

aaaah.... so it does have depth. Time to add that to my IB. I'll give it a shot!

Yep only 5 levels. Most Aussie brokers and data providers have 20 each side. But mostly 5 is enough for ........... [Insert secret method here]

Its weird because even on interactive brokers it says "top of book" data only. Very odd.

This Sparks looks very interesting, I will definitely give this a try.

I know this is an old thread, but are there any current useful tools can use for live real time ASX data that can be recommended?

If you want live charts you will need to subscribe to a trading platform like IRESS or similar. This is a link for a test drive at Amscot
https://www.amscot.com.au/Services/Index/WebIressDemo
20 minutes at a time and data is delayed.

There are other platforms. Some CFD brokers might let you open a demo account. As you will be using SelfWealth to trade, subscriptions will have to be paid to a third party, e.g. ANZ Share Investing $49.95 per month is probably the cheapest for IRESS or Pro Trader. I'm not sure if that is available longer term if you don't actually trade through them.

If you don't need charts, only live bid/ask prices, you could open a brokerage account with Westpac or NAB. I've been getting live prices and EOD data for years without ever trading with them. Different with ANZ; live prices for a month or two and if you don't make the occasional trade, they give you 20 minutes delay.

Yes will be using SelfWealth which already has data that is 20 minutes delayed but was looking for something that has live data, maybe even pay or subscribe to, and not create a trading account, selfwealth only has live bid prices - thanks
