No, Syria is now a proxy war between the US/NATO and Russia, heard that the Chinese might be joining in - to test their armed forces and fight evil of course.

The US stayed out of the Syrian dispute untill it was obvious that Islamic State was going on the rampage there.

Once I.S. looked like it could be victorious in the area the US decided that a IS run Syria would be worse than a Assad run Syria. Russia is involved because it supplies arms to Assad, but the essential conflict is Sunni vs Shia.

From the news I watched, the US has been there since at least the time of Libya. Remember Obama's "red line" against Syria? Assad crossed it by using chemical weapons on his people, Obama have to make good on his red line ultimatum but then Putin stepped in by getting Assad to have the UN remove all those chemical weapons - saving Obama's threat of putting boots on the ground.

CIA boots would have already been on the ground since at least then.

So yea, while Iran and Hezbollah, and Russia, has been assisting Assad all these years... Russia has recently stepped up its presence. They definitely do not want Assad's Syria going the way of the Ukraine.

So while citizens in the West are made to believe it's Islamic sectarian violence and extremism that's causing all these... and on the surface it is, I don't think that's the case at all. We're not fighting ISIS and terrorism, there's bigger game at play here, ones that increases terrorism in countries in the ME, and will eventually cause some here.

The generals and planners know that. They just don't care... might even help their cause.

We're playing with fire here.

Even Augustus Caesar knew where to draw the frontier of his empire, and he's no dove. The Americans doesn't seem to know, or know but the way the system and growth and maybe hubris has it, just can't help themselves but see the world, the entire world, as theirs to control.

So while the US/West do have military superiority over Russia, China, the ME is no match... it is stretching too thinly. China is weaker but if it focus its resources to a couple of areas, like the seas surrounding its borders... build itself a bigger Navy (instead of ghost cities) and threat of Nukes... a bogged down US military playing with Russians and the Arabs might not be able to do much against China if China decided to go all out.

If any other country were to even think about building airstrips and lighthouses in areas China is doing, it'll be sanctioned and feel a whole heap of pain. China does it and so far nothing but a few harsh words.

If we keep it up in the ME, get touchy with Russian jets or accidentally bomb their bases or convoy... and at home let big corporations hide their income overseas and playing games with accounting and shell companies, and having a large part of the economy a bunch of bankers and financial experts who built nothing and innovate some idiotic financial products; add to that a vast majority not earning much and deep into debt... wow... the best that might happen is the US will go the way of the British Empire after Hitler had a good go challenging its hegemony.

Don't forget that Russia has a lot of business investments in Syria and wouldn't want to see them jeopardised.

And remember that Russia's traditional method of putting down insurrection is with brutality, something Assad is quit comfortable with so long as the USA and Iran don't get upset.

Putin has his reputation riding on getting things back on track in Syria and be seen as unfazed by the US and West.
