That is 17 stocks in all. Perhaps I have a few too many. In the past I have had as many as 20 stocks. Generally, with 20 stocks I usually limit my value to in any one stock to 5% of my total balance. I usually buy my shares in lots of $5,000, $10,000, $15,000, or $20,000. at a time. In this way I find it I can look at my position summay and immediately see which share is up on down on my purchase price.
Perhaps I could share with you my rationale for purchasing the above shares.
While I have been trading in shares for over a decade, it is only in the last seven years that I have got serious about it. In the year 2000, I started my current account with an ititial contribution of $90,000. By June 2007 I managed to reach a balance of $350,000. I deposited an additional $100,000 in 2003 but the rest has come from the growth in my portfolio.
Perhaps in another post I might go back over each trade that has brought me to my current portfolio.
I do have a trading plan which I must say has been revised many times over the years as I become better educated about trading. Currently, my trading plan is essentially about selecting shares that have good potential for growth. Most of my current shares were identified as potential growth shares after completing an Advance Search on Comsec using the following four parameters:
1. EPS 1 year Growth > 20%
2. EPS 2 year average forecast Growth > 20%
3. 1 year average annual return > 35%
4. PEG Ratio < 1.6
Such a search will usually identify 70 or more possible selections. I then usually consider there % price movement over the past one month and three month periods respectively.
In the past I did this last search using the percentage graphs on Comsec. More recently I have been using the search facilities on Incrediblecharts.com. The Incrediblecharts facility has opened up an even better methodology which to date I have not put down on paper. Perhaps I will discuss that in a future post.
Today I purchased 2910 shares in IMD and I have listed 2000 of MCR for sale.
My reasons for buying IMD are based on its superior growth fundamentals and exceptional indicators in terms of technical analysis. It passes all my current requirements for a buy candidate.
I am selling 20 % of my MCR shares to balance up my portfolio as it currently represents 15% of my total portfolio. As stated in my plan I endeavour to maintain no more than 5% exposure in any one share.
My revised portfolio now consists of:
