Amibroker FAQ

The data is still there today, including a few years of daily data that I imported. I don't think I did anything other than increasing "bars to load", but even the previous value should have been enough for a couple of years of data. Whatever I did, it worked . Thanks for you help.

Re: Amibroker Exit after no profit and n bars

Hi,

How do I code into a system the following:

if I haven't made a profit of 5% in 5 days then exit the trade.

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Did you end up coding it yourself or find the code? If not let me know and I'll have a look at it.

Mark

I followed those instructions but the A/D Line did not come up.I find some of the information on Amibroker hard to get. A bit secretive or poorly defined at times.

hi guys, sorry to hijack thread. I have just obtained trial versions Amibroker and PremuimData, and has installed them both.

My problem is that I have lost the charts I had up. I cant seem to get charts to appear when i select them.

Just below the Tab it says "ERROR: Formula chart not found or empty - no chart to display"

Can anyone assist me?

I'm new too. Try File->New->Default Chart.

If that does not work then try drag 'n' drop price from the charts menu onto the sheet.

Thanks mate, didnt work though

its bloody annoying coz i am normally quite tech savvy

when i had my first chart on there, its default was a candlestick with Bband, i think there was a MACD chart below, and below that was a RSI or something (from memory)

I close both tabs now can get them up again (frustrating how I can printscreen)

Thanks for your help anyway

ANYONE else?

I'm not familiar with this error with our data.... It's usually because an indicator or bad/deleted indicator is attached to a particular chart.

One simple way to get rid of this with our data is to:
a) Shut down AmiBroker
b) Navigate to c:\Program Files\AmiBroker\ASX-Premium Data\ with windows explorer then delete the stock in question under the appropriate alphabetical folder (eg. BHP would be under B\BHP)
c) Start AmiBroker, click Tools->ASX-PremiumData
d) Open up that stock again

There may be better ways of doing this but the above may get rid of the issue entirely.

Sometimes when you mucked up default templates/layouts it's often much eaiser to "start again". In this case with Premium Data, I recommend deleting the ASX-PremiumData folder under c:\Program Files\AmiBroker\ then running the Amibroker ASX integration installer again.

Thanks buddy, superb service infact. Works fine now

hi all,

im new to Amibroker and am finding it to be very helpful. I would be interested in scanning for the following kind of set up (GIF image below).

- where there is a strong trend (up or down)
- where a counter trend of 4+ days has occured
- upon resumption of the main trend, it takes out the swing low that started the counter trend move up, in a small amount of days (preferably half the amount of counter trend days)
- I would look at entering on following day after the break of the swing low

Is it possible to scan for such a move or do i have to just eyeball 100's of charts each day?

any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi all,

Can anyone help me with the backtest report shown below?
Overall profit is good at 676%.
Average Profit is $7435
Average loss is -$2837

However, it is giving me an average loss % of -471.45% and an Avg Profit/Loss % of -268.26%.

This doesn't make any sense to me, any help would be appreciated.

Harro

Ha ha, yeah it'd be nice to jump on a few of these, that was BTA for a 430% increase, the largest increase is actually CDU for 927%. I'm creating a watchlist of all the stocks with excessive returns and excluding these to see what would happen if I missed these buys, results are still good but not quite as impressive.

I think I have found the problem, there is a 4.7% loss on BTA but in the profit column it is showing -135000%, must be a gherkin in the system.

But I thought you were only allocating 10% of portfolio to each trade? The capital allocated to that trade would have been above $46,000.

Anyway, as I noted on another thread, exits are most critical in a trading system. I am perplexed by how your exit signal triggers at such a high return yet stop losses are kept relatively small.

That's right, I am only allocating 10% of my equity/trade that $200000 profit came from BTA from the 5/3/09 to the 23/10/09, by this stage the $100000 initial equity had grown to just shy of $500k so that makes sense. This particular simulation got on board some pretty good profits, obviously in real life you may miss out on some of these. It is also testing todays ASX300 which is innacurate, some of these stocks may only be in the ASX300 today because of huge profits they made since 2003. I am trying to source historical lists for the ASX300 but to no avail. I know that the S&P website use to have them but it was recently changed and I can no longer find them. The only other way I have been able to more accurately test the system is by back testing all fully paid ordinary shares. These results are not as impressive but still pretty good, there is about a 5% chance it would underperform the market trading these shares based on simulations i've run. Testing the ASX 300 gives a 100% chance (According to about 5000 simulations) of outperforming the market.
As for how it will go in the future there is only 1 way to find out. Once I do a bit more testing and tweaking I will begin trading.

Try running a back test between 1st April 2007 and 1st December 2008. Could you post the results please? Maybe on the system thread you opened as this is off topic for this thread.
